What's been great about having children today?

I have just spent the last hour or so doing some online shopping (and skipping on and off here too ) whilst Dd (3y4m) has been playing in the livign area ont he floor with all her Happy Land tiyrs. She is in her own world entirely. the people are being moved about and are having conversations between themselves, and she is really into her game. I just have to keep stopping and watching and listening to her. She just makes me smile so much Mind you, I am sure I can hear myself in some of those conversations

We've had a really nice today - swimming and then lunch with Katzguk and her DDs, then some singing and dancing together when we got home and then she's been playing. No tantrums or strops today at all and it's been lovely.

What's been great about being a mum (or dad) for you today?

When I told ds (6) it was time to come in to get ready for bed (he was out playing with friends), he came Recently he has had so much attitude eg "it's not fair" "I don't want to" "You can't make me". So for him to come in without making any sort of fuss, or even trying to negotiate for extra time, was really lovely

My ds read his first novel! only 30 pages but I couldnt be any more proud!

myturn · 22/08/2005 20:02

Coming home from work to find they had made up a magic show to perform for me. It was so sweet.

But they are still going to bed on time!

And to end my day - DD ate up pretty much all her dinner (tuna - which she often rejects, rice and veggies) and then we sat looking at he rphoto album for a while and talking about the oictures in there. And then she has gone off to bed, with a story, no fuss at all.

Shame I have to go to work tomorrow really

I really like reading about what people have been up to and the nicities - soemtimes feels like we can concentrate on the problems, things we need advice on, etc. I'd had a lovely day and wanted to share - and to hear about others too.

The overwhelming welcome I got from DS when I returned from work this afternoon. He'd been with Daddy all day and just threw himself into my arms and giggled lots, squeezed me and gave me a sloppy kiss. Unconditional love I think they call it. Oh I love him so much.

Niddlynono · 22/08/2005 20:28

DS (2.10) coming up to be just now, stroking my face and asking 'can I play a game on your comtuper [sic] please my darling?'.

helsy · 22/08/2005 20:31

Coming in from aerobics tonight(first class in about 10 years!) and finding both dds (5 yrs and 15 months) cuddled up together on the carpet watching Storymakers.

morningpaper · 22/08/2005 20:32

Watching my two year old help me in the kitchen by 'sieving' the flour - basically just tossing it all over the place with a look of total concentration. Required a big clean up but was worth it just to stand quietly and watch her concentrating so hard.

TwoIfBySea · 22/08/2005 21:28

When dst1 (3y8m) came up to sit on my knee (he is not a huggy child like his brother), pulled my arms tight around him and told me I make him happy.

I nearly cried!

And he wasn't even after anything, just a hug!

JoolsToo · 22/08/2005 21:31

thinking about them and knowing I did a good job and they are all settled, happy and healthy

hoxtonchick · 22/08/2005 21:31

making apple crumble with ds.

watching ds & his baby sister smile at each other.

WideWebWitch · 22/08/2005 21:45

the cuddle I got when I got in after a dispiriting day.

newmumhelp · 22/08/2005 21:48

Ahh. What a nice thread. My first child is 8 weeks old, so doesn't do much, but i had a lovely day with him today. He was such a good boy, hardly any crying, slept when he was tired, and even managed to wee all over himself whilst in the bath. Then i fed him and he fell asleep in my arms, and is happily snoring away in his bed now. Bless. He's so lovely

Simple things hey

The smile I get from DD every morning along with a big kiss, well I kiss her and she just dribbles! . I took her to the place where I work (well, not at the moment as i'm on maternity leave). Everyone thought she was beautiful and so contented. She was all smiles and chatter for nearly 2 hours. However, when she gets tired, it's a virtual full on scream almost straight away so I had to make a speedy exit and promise to go back another day. She was great though and i'm as proud as punch of my DD .

so proud, i've said it twice

steffee · 22/08/2005 22:25

Sweet thread. My ds2 learned what a sheep is (he's 20m) and carries the bit of farm jigsaw piece with the sheep on all over with him, making sure everyone knows it is a sheep.

edam · 22/08/2005 22:31

Ds saying 'night night mummy' when I tucked him in - the first time he's ever said it! (He's two).

Me thinking I'd got away with telling ds he couldn't open some boxes that actually contain new toys. I said we couldn't open them because daddy wasn't here. It was working, oddly enough, but unfortunately dh turned up moments before I turned the light out! (I know it seems mean but it was stuff we were putting away for him, but dh had left it where ds could see them, daft so and so).

Passionflower · 22/08/2005 22:36

What a lovely thread!

Sitting on the sofa watching Ice age, and all three girls (ages 5, 3, & 18mts) came and sat quietly by me.

No pushing and shoving for position today, just three tired happy little girls, not needing me but just wanting to be companiable with me and each other.

Melpomene · 22/08/2005 23:21

When I read my dds their bedtime story, dd2 (4 months) squealed with delight all the way through. And dd1 (2.4) always gives dd2 a lovely goodnight cuddle and kiss - it is sooo cute to see.

Tortington · 22/08/2005 23:53

my ds2 gave me a big kiss and cuddle and said " hello georgous" when i came in from work tonight. he's 12!

i havent seen my eldest today

MarsLady · 22/08/2005 23:59

DS1 telling me he loves me, taking a parcel to the post office for me and just chatting away to me
DD1 made me a cuppa without complaint. Went to Sainsburys for me and played with the DTs when they got down from the dining table.
DD2 sent a text from Britanny to say that she missed me and loves me very much.
DT1 grabbing my face, kissing my cheek then turning my face to kiss my lips.
DTs running across the room, grabbing me round the legs, lifting his hands so that I can pick him up so that he can snuggle into my neck.

And all that before 10am.

ABow · 23/08/2005 00:07

dd (12 weeks) giggled for the first time

wheresmyfroggy · 23/08/2005 00:18

DD1 (22months) managing to call me while i was at work (fluke last number redial) and wandering around the house for 5 mins going hello daddy and telling me about cbeebies before dw noticed

DD1 using DD2's (17 weeks) hand to play keyboard i recovered from shed when i got back from work
