supply and demand. less users, the price wont hike up so much, and if the cost of petrol is down, then the cost of getting food to supermarkets will be less, which means the cost of food we buy in the supermarkets will be less.

simple really.

sadly i think we all love the convenience of the car too much.

Would love to give up car- hate driving- cannot. Why? DH works night shifts in a trading estate that is not served by public transport, is 50 miles away and no-one else lives near us so he HAS to drive. I have a child with AS whom I am scared to take walking on a bad day as he escapes. DH would love to get a local job, there aren't any as we live in a village. If we moved, I would have to commute to Uni. I would need a car.

you get the point?

Gave up my car years ago as didnt need it at that time, but now can't see how we would survive without it, taking AS son on a bus is a no-no, and no food shops here bar a tiny spar.

When these mileage charges kick off, DH hopes to go self emplyed, as we don't earn a lot. But we will always need a car sometimes, just to live.

I hate car culture too!

I particularly get p*ssed off with DH who DRIVES to the gym (3 miles away) and then DRIVES back again. If he just jogged to the gym door and back he could give up his membership and save a fortune in money/petrol.
