having a conversation with dh the other day and he recons we probably spend too much.

I would say we have 2 a week, Chinese £8 and Indian £12, so £20 per week.

We don't smoke or drink heavily, so we do not have any other vices really.

Just wandered other peoples situations.

pie my lebanese is close to you - right behind olympia on blythe road and is called chez marcelle. looks like a greasy spoon but the best (and cheapest) lebanese food in london. PLEASE go there, I'd like to think of someone else enjoying it. And I love Marcelle!

whymummy · 17/07/2003 19:48

thats the one pphead im sure!!i`ll ask dh when he comes in his memory has not been affected with two pregnancies like mine has

pie · 17/07/2003 19:49

Thanks for the tip PPH, I'll look out for it, I love falafels

SamboM · 17/07/2003 19:50

Every Friday we have a takeaway, usually costs £20 or £30 (if we have crispy duck yum!)

lou33 · 17/07/2003 19:57

About once every 4-5 weeks. Roughly £20 for 2 adults and 4 children.

Lindy · 17/07/2003 20:03

I wish we could have takeaways ......... living in the country is wonderful but you do miss things like takeaways - we do have an Indian within 20 mins but that's the only choice (the Chinese is inedible) - we do have fish & chips by the sea about once a fortnight - does that count?!

Has anyone got a (simple) recipe for the aubergine dip (baba.........something)? I love it but have never been able to make it properly.

Demented · 17/07/2003 20:07

Cringe, we are trying to stop, they cost too much and they are fattening but usually an Indian every 7-10 days at a cost of about £12, it could last two days but we are complete pigs and eat the lot in one sitting.

webmum · 17/07/2003 20:34

we must be the worst of all: about twice a week, one kebab and one indian totally around 30-35....I'm feeling really bad now

Enid · 17/07/2003 20:44

Same here Lindy, there's a fairly decent Indian but quite honestly M and S curry is better. Occasionally get a pizza from Pizza Express. Probably 3 times a year. I love visiting friends in Bristol/London cos they have all sorts of yummy thai etc takeaways.

Empress · 17/07/2003 20:51

Blimey I feel terribly virtuous now after reading these! We have a takeaway - usually Nepalese/Lebanese/Indian - about 4 or 5 times a year, & it feels like a great indulgence! After reading these I think we should definitely increase the frequency - mumsnet peer pressure!!

runragged · 17/07/2003 21:26

We used to have a chinese/indian every saturday (£8 if we were skint £12 if we weren't!) but now it's every two weeks as I work some weekend - try to squeeze in a fish and chips on non takeaway weeks if possible!

KatyW · 18/07/2003 15:25

Lindy - there's a good recipe in Nigella Lawson's Forever Summer book, it's called moutabal in that, but I think it's the same thing. I'll post it later if you like

Bobsmum · 18/07/2003 16:27

Well it's Friday night - what are we all having?

Boe · 18/07/2003 16:32

Once every couple of weeks rotates indian/chinese/greek/pizza (not too keen on pizza (only like pizza express and Sidcup will not deliver!!) but DP would eat it every night) usually about £20.

Do not eat fish and chips - cannot remember the last time that I did - the smell of them turns my stomach????

ThomCat · 18/07/2003 17:12

I have a takeaway once or twice a month but spend a bloody fortune on my shopping so......
We'd normally do about £15ish on a curry i spose and maybe about £20 on a chinese. Had a Pizza Hut delivery last night actually and it was gross!
At the mo my DP is obsessed with bbq's and we have had one 3 times this week! Driving me a bit now as s steaks and 2 hours later our dinner is ready!

M2T · 18/07/2003 17:20

Is that part of your diet, Breeze?

We have an Indian or a Pizza Hut once a week (at least)! Usually between £15-£20.....

..... we drink and smoke too. So I don't think that what you spend is unreasonable at all!

ThomCat · 18/07/2003 17:25

Oh yeah and we have about 2 bottles of wine a night between the 2 of us and we both smoke, me only a bit unless I'm having a BNO (big night out).

Enid · 18/07/2003 17:37

Dp away at Grand Prix so I have a hot date with a bottle of red and a Waitrose Thai meal. Oh and watching Nush get evicted. And sadly, doing some cross-stitch. Never mind.

ThomCat · 18/07/2003 17:54

Hmmmm, cross-stitch - do you think you should go there??!!!!!!

Enid · 18/07/2003 17:55

I know, frightening isnt it. SIL did dd1 a sampler and I want to do one for dd2 so she doesnt feel left out. Just started it...could be persuaded to drink most of the bottle then ring girlfriends instead.

pie · 18/07/2003 17:58

Yeah cross-stiching.

breeze · 18/07/2003 18:29

I used to do knitting

My aunty does cross stitch, they look lovely, but it takes her about 5 years to do each one.

MABS · 18/07/2003 18:34

oh...it's Friday - must be Indian , particularly as we had Chinese last night. We really are trying to cut down, honest

jennyj · 18/07/2003 18:43

Yup, it's Friday, therefore it's pizza. Perfect for watching Top of the Pops and going ' What are they wearing? ' and ' Is this music? ' and other comments that make us sound fuddy duddy.
There is an excellent Papa Johns near us that does any large pizza for 8.99, plus the essential garlic bread.
