take-aways, how many and how much?

having a conversation with dh the other day and he recons we probably spend too much.

I would say we have 2 a week, Chinese £8 and Indian £12, so £20 per week.

We don't smoke or drink heavily, so we do not have any other vices really.

Just wandered other peoples situations.

pie my lebanese is close to you - right behind olympia on blythe road and is called chez marcelle. looks like a greasy spoon but the best (and cheapest) lebanese food in london. PLEASE go there, I'd like to think of someone else enjoying it. And I love Marcelle!

Every Friday we have a takeaway, usually costs £20 or £30 (if we have crispy duck yum!)

I wish we could have takeaways ......... living in the country is wonderful but you do miss things like takeaways - we do have an Indian within 20 mins but that's the only choice (the Chinese is inedible) - we do have fish & chips by the sea about once a fortnight - does that count?!

Has anyone got a (simple) recipe for the aubergine dip (baba.........something)? I love it but have never been able to make it properly.

Cringe, we are trying to stop, they cost too much and they are fattening but usually an Indian every 7-10 days at a cost of about £12, it could last two days but we are complete pigs and eat the lot in one sitting.

we must be the worst of all: about twice a week, one kebab and one indian totally around 30-35....I'm feeling really bad now

Same here Lindy, there's a fairly decent Indian but quite honestly M and S curry is better. Occasionally get a pizza from Pizza Express. Probably 3 times a year. I love visiting friends in Bristol/London cos they have all sorts of yummy thai etc takeaways.

Blimey I feel terribly virtuous now after reading these! We have a takeaway - usually Nepalese/Lebanese/Indian - about 4 or 5 times a year, & it feels like a great indulgence! After reading these I think we should definitely increase the frequency - mumsnet peer pressure!!

We used to have a chinese/indian every saturday (£8 if we were skint £12 if we weren't!) but now it's every two weeks as I work some weekend - try to squeeze in a fish and chips on non takeaway weeks if possible!

Once every couple of weeks rotates indian/chinese/greek/pizza (not too keen on pizza (only like pizza express and Sidcup will not deliver!!) but DP would eat it every night) usually about £20.

Do not eat fish and chips - cannot remember the last time that I did - the smell of them turns my stomach????

I have a takeaway once or twice a month but spend a bloody fortune on my shopping so......
We'd normally do about £15ish on a curry i spose and maybe about £20 on a chinese. Had a Pizza Hut delivery last night actually and it was gross!
At the mo my DP is obsessed with bbq's and we have had one 3 times this week! Driving me a bit now as s steaks and 2 hours later our dinner is ready!

We have an Indian or a Pizza Hut once a week (at least)! Usually between £15-£20.....

..... we drink and smoke too. So I don't think that what you spend is unreasonable at all!

Oh yeah and we have about 2 bottles of wine a night between the 2 of us and we both smoke, me only a bit unless I'm having a BNO (big night out).

Dp away at Grand Prix so I have a hot date with a bottle of red and a Waitrose Thai meal. Oh and watching Nush get evicted. And sadly, doing some cross-stitch. Never mind.

I know, frightening isnt it. SIL did dd1 a sampler and I want to do one for dd2 so she doesnt feel left out. Just started it...could be persuaded to drink most of the bottle then ring girlfriends instead.

My aunty does cross stitch, they look lovely, but it takes her about 5 years to do each one.

Yup, it's Friday, therefore it's pizza. Perfect for watching Top of the Pops and going ' What are they wearing? ' and ' Is this music? ' and other comments that make us sound fuddy duddy.
There is an excellent Papa Johns near us that does any large pizza for 8.99, plus the essential garlic bread.
