cheapo fun for mum

Have just washed my hair, put it into 2 bunches and cut the ends off them. My hair looks fabarooney. I do this now and again when I feel frumpy and have not been to the hairdresser for about a year now and save loads of cash. Anyone else do this for an instant pick me up or am I weird? Any other free fun for mum tipettes?

To cheer me up today I am wearing a rather funkylicious long sleeved T-shirt with Elmo from Sesame Street on it. My Button Moon T-shirt works a treat too.
Definitely with you on the bunches thing squib! At 27, I'm sure i'm too old to be Claire's accesories best customer, oh well....

Tissy · 17/07/2003 12:56

you're weird

(well you did ask )

Bobsmum · 17/07/2003 12:56

too chicken for the scissors though...

oliveoil · 17/07/2003 12:57

If I did that to my hair I would be left with 2 short frizzy stumps instead of 1 big one

I am on an economy drive at the moment as I am about to reduce my 4 day week to 3 so instead of having my legs waxed, pedicures, etc at a salon, I do them at home, and my pedicure looks fantastic if I say so myself. Dh throws annoying looks at all the new potions ('bullshit creams' as he lovingly terms them) crowding the bathroom, but once you have got the stuff, it saves loads in the longterm.

kayleigh · 17/07/2003 13:07

wow. i'm impressed. sounds like a great idea, but i think i'd be too scared to try it. I'd probably end up looking like edward scissor hands had been around. could really do with a trim though. ends looking a bit straggly. does it really work - just normal bunches ?

squib · 17/07/2003 13:09

Love the t-shirt thing Bobsmum. I am 33 - never too old for bunches (although only put bunches in for cut)

Oliveoil - love the home beauty parlour idea. Sonmeties I dye my eyelashes using a home kit and that is good.

Anyone else out there order books from the library? Did you know you could do it online? I read the Sunday papers and pick up loads of ideas of books to order. Only costs 50p and you can read the latest hardbacks ...

ooh Bobsmum, we crossed. I've got the elmo t-shirt too and it always puts a smile on my face. And I am loud cough years older than you

squib · 17/07/2003 13:10

kayleigh hi

yes just normal bunches very roughly done

it may help that my hair is thick and curly so any roughness doesn't show (or maybe I am just kidding myself

squib, i'm SO glad you mentioned that before i started. I have dead straight hair so a home cut just might look like one ! I'm sure you look stunning and I am dead jealous of your curls.

SamboM · 17/07/2003 14:27

squib, I'm with Tissy, you are dead weird. I wouldn't touch my own hair, it looks so awful if I don't get it cut properly every 2 months!

Need to economise, so own pedicure may be a good idea, not that I get them done v often but I do love it. Maybe I could get my nanny to do it?!

I bought a bird feeder and enjoy watching the birds too. Have a little book that helps me identify them (was pleased to see sparrows and thrushes - both of which are rarer now).

I can do this whilst feeding my little one.

Also feel better having done cereal diet and cabbage soup diet to lose added pregnancy weight. Not free but very cheap if you make the soup yourself.

When I saw the bit about the bird feeder I was going to withdraw my last comment. Then I read on.

codswallop · 17/07/2003 15:51

I had a conversation recently about women who wear bunches and pigtails..sorry past 30 and its no go in my book!

Boe · 17/07/2003 15:56

Hey that means you are a twitcher (is your finger twitching too???)

I am gonna give myself a pedicure tonight after swimming - may lose a few pounds if file off that gross hard skin (just joined SW), bought a footfile thing this morning and a sanctuary kit to pamper my poor tired feet!!

When I am feeling a bit crappy I like to eat chocolate, drink alcohol, look at pictures of my daughter and the people I love or go to bed for a bit of a fumble (not alone I may add) - always puts a smile on my face.

Have no hair left after last nights shearing so bunches are out for me - reckon longest bit is about 3 inches but I have a beautiful Hello Kitty hairclip that I put in (am not aloud to wear it outside house when with DP) and that makes me feel all young and spritelly again!!

Bobsmum · 17/07/2003 16:02

ooooh Hello kitty - I have to hide my stash too Boe!

ForestFly · 17/07/2003 16:02

I wear bunches and i dont care if im too old they suit me!

codswallop · 17/07/2003 16:04

I would add leather trousers to my list too.

Northerner · 17/07/2003 16:05

I'm with codswallop on the no bunches after 30 rule .

I've got 3 years of bunch wearing left! Do you think bunces are acceptable for work or not?

codswallop · 17/07/2003 16:05

no way.

Northerner · 17/07/2003 16:07

Oh yes Coddy! I hate leather trousers sooooo much. And it's always the same 'type' of woman who would wear leather trousers over 30.

I would also possibly add denim mini skirts to the list.

Boe · 17/07/2003 16:10

Not sure about the bunches/work thing - I look a bit kooky so would not be a surprise to anyone, they expect me to come in in weird get ups and when wear a suit they are all quite surprised and disappointed!!

Also bought a really nice green mini skirt from Karen Millen the other day (and an orange sequined string vest!!) - my legs are about the only great thing about my bod at the moment but had a few funny comments when I showed girls at work!!!

Go with whatever you think though - balls to the rest of the world - think of all those sad men who still wear speedos and tshirts with really unfunny slogans on when they are a bit past it (ooops DP got a FCUK 'merchantbanker one for fathers day - he asked for it!! but he does not look 32 at all!!). Do think braces (especially loud ones) should be banned on any man under 50 though!!

codswallop · 17/07/2003 16:10

string vest at work!!
