I think I may be inspired by the 100 situps a day club - but I couldn't manage more than 10!

Anyone want to try starting small and building up?

Metrobaby, sit ups aren't bad for your back it just depends on how you do them. When you lie down make sure you keep your knees bent and feet flat to the floor. Only lift your shoulders off the floor and pull you tummy muscle flat and towards your spine. If you haven't done them for a long time then just keep your hands on the thighs (not to the temples) as this is easier and as you come up your hands go up your thighs. Hope this helps

I've done mine for the last 3 days and aerobics (just showing off now) but i am taking it steady in this hot weather as I'm 31wk prgn.

Iggy · 16/07/2003 15:09

Did 10, then felt I had to do 10 more cos I had a drink in the pub at lunch time!!! Thanks Crazynow, I read your advice to Metrobaby and I think I am now doing them properly.

Tortington · 17/07/2003 09:40

i did my 20 yesterday - after this thread reminded me

Iggy · 17/07/2003 10:24
  1. Cant manage more, having more of a crisps and jaffa cake kind of day...
bossykate · 17/07/2003 10:47

did 20 this morning plus plank for 20 secs. this is working well as a reminder so far!

kayleigh · 17/07/2003 11:10

I thought it was going to be difficult on my three working days to find time to do them but I managed 10 last night in front of the telly (before dh got home !) and actually did 12 this morning when I found myslelf (unusually) alone in my bedroom before getting dressed. Am very pleased with myself. This and the slimming world thread are going to turn me into a new woman

boyandgirl · 17/07/2003 15:13

done em!

Bossykate, what is plank?

OP posts:
bossykate · 17/07/2003 15:17

see exercise 11 ... but an easier version is to do this with knees on the floor, and this is what i am doing until i build up my abs strength a bit more...

kayleigh · 18/07/2003 12:57

have you all given up girls ?!

did 12 last night while watching telly and did 15 this morning. Can really feel my tummy muscles now and am sure my stomach looked the tiniest bit smaller this morning. Looks like there was one less fold in it than usual

Metrobaby · 18/07/2003 13:35

crazynow - I didn't realise doing situps was safe when you are pg !

That puts me to shame - I have no excuse now. Unfortunately I cannot do my situps now as I am at work, but will endeavour to do so tonight.

LIZS · 18/07/2003 14:00

Trying to remember to do them whilst kids are having breakfast. Around 20 this morning plus 10 with a twist. This is a great way of keeping me motivated. Anyone any ideas how soon you get any improvement - family party in a 4 weeks time and I don't really want people who we haven't seen for 2 + years asking whether I am pregnant again!!!

Here's hopefully ....

ps how many to burn off each Mars Bar

boyandgirl · 18/07/2003 14:52

Bossykate - excellent site. I must give them a try, especially the more basic ones. I used to be able to do the plank...ah well, hopefully this thread will help!

I always do a set while reading this thread, a good excuse to log on to Mumsnet - as if I needed one! Done!

Did 15 this morning. Am pleased I managed to find time at the weekend. I find if I do them 1st thing then i am much more likely to stick to my diet for the day.

kayleigh · 21/07/2003 11:48

got up to 20 this morning . where's everyone gone ? Is my heavy breathing putting you off

bossykate · 21/07/2003 12:23

sorry, bit slack over the weekend, will do mine tonight.

boyandgirl · 21/07/2003 14:40

Today I'm hoiking myself up to 15 a day. Here goes...done!

Metrobaby, it depends on how many weeks prg you are as to which ones you can do.

Up to 20wks you can do them on your back, after 20wks you need to be on your hands and knees in a box position and then gently pull in tummy muscles (these are the ones I do at the moment) you can also do your obliques again on your hands and knees, gently pulling your hips and ribs together alternate each side - but don't go mad - only do what you/your body is happy with - good luck

kayleigh · 22/07/2003 11:45

Have done 20 this morning. I'm sure my stomach looks flatter. Have you noticed ?

Iggy · 22/07/2003 13:34

AAArrrggghhhh I missed a few days. Just did 50 to try and catch up. Still got a few more to go, but i think I will leave it till tomorrow. Also my computer going in to be fixed at the weekend so I will not be able to post for a few days, but promise I will keep doing them

boyandgirl · 22/07/2003 15:01

I doubt I'd be doing them at all if it wasn't for Mumsnet!

OP posts:
LIZS · 23/07/2003 08:47

Still doing them but yet to see any great improvement. Certainly does n't seem to have had much effect on bit below belly button - is this likely to come later or is there something else I need to do ?

boyandgirl · 23/07/2003 14:22

I don't hold out much hope for the bit below my belly button. I call it my 'apron' and have told dh that his Silver Wedding present to me may have to be a tummy tuck!

I've been told to 'zip up and drop down' before doing any stomach exercises. When you are lying down just before you do the crunches, you zip up your lower stomach muscles as if they were trouser flies, while at the same time dropping your bellybutton towards your spine. Then you hold that 'girdle' of muscle while doing the crunches. It's supposed to support your back and strengthen your 'apron' muscles.

LIZS · 24/07/2003 10:42

Thanks for that it really helps visualise tucking it all in . There's hope yet!!

boyandgirl · 24/07/2003 20:54

Today I wore a pair of trousers that I haven't been able to get into since I got pregnant - hooray (admitedly they were too big for me before I got pregnant). It felt like I was wearing a corset from knees to waist, but boy did it hide my apron!
