dodgy name for daughter

dh and I are starting to think about names for our next one and both, independently, suggested an unusual but pretty girl's name (don't want to say what it is as we're funny like that!!). BUT it's not in any name books so I looked it up on google and found 101 porn stars all called this!

Should this put us off? It's lovely but I don't want the poor girl getting strange looks all her life.

but Joan would be in baby name books so it can't be that ...

only famous woman footballer I can find is Mia Hamm, but Mia would be in name books as well!

Ok. Here goes. It pains me to do this as it means I probably won't want to use it now (especially if we have a boy ), but it's Dita.

The famous porn star is Dita von Teese. Madonna used the name in her Sex book for one of her fantasies. The revolutionary is Dita Sari - in Indonesia. The actress is Dita Parlo (German, 1930's) and the department store was Bergdorf Goodman. The football player - who knows but she has a site on Google. And my God, some of the porn sites are still making my eyes water.

Also, I thought that the 'porn star' game was just a way of discovering the mother's maiden name of people - which is often the passcode for things like bank accounts and interenet password resets!!

Oh, I quite like it and have never heard of it, never mind as a porn star name. I'd go for it if I were you, although people will say "what's that? Anita you say? Can you spell it please?" I bet. Still, that's never been a reason for me not to go for a nice unusual name, my ds is in for a lifetime of spelling both his name and surname but I think they're both lovely so I don't care!

I think Dita is lovely name. I'm obviously very naive, but I'd never heard of any of those folks and Madonna's book was missed off my Christmas list.
As long as your surname doesn't rhyme with it or begin with a "d" then go for it!

I don't think it sounds like a porn name either but a lot of other people seem to. There's a porn site called Dita2000 and once open it's really hard to get the pictures off the pc ("honestly dh, I was just looking up childrens names".

Pie. Nobby was my nickname at school. So I was that child called nobby!

Dita is nice, it sounds very Indian. Bet you get loads of people spelling it Deeta though. I say go for it, those who recognise it as a porn stars name would never dare say in case they were sussed. Most people like me would never connect it anyway. If you like it then stick with it.
