Reason why these days wedding invites are for adults onlyis cost -quite a few of my 40+ getting married now and most people our age do have kids. They can't afford the costs of having the kids there. I don't go where ds can't go but I can understand why they are doing it. If we had the tradition where guests give cash it would be OK - but I've only been to weddings where you give presents.

We recently went to one wedding where the food was £150 per head (being paid for by the hosts I hasten to add and this was a £100k wedding that lasted two weeks) - ds was invited and we had a great time but it was late and the thumping music and lights got a bit much for him. And he didn't eat £150 of food so I asked for a doggy bag!

Francagoestohollywood · 02/05/2010 16:33

150 £ each is really shocking! When we got married (we got married in Italy) there were about 7/8 children but we didn't pay for them, as I said it's not like children eat huge portions of food!

Mind you, as I said, unless it's family, I prefer to leave the children home, plus, the more they grow up, the least they care re coming to weddings

We arrived on friday evening and the weather was lovely, so we all had an aperitivo sulla spiaggia. Yesterday we managed the beach and a long walk, but it finally started to rain in the evening. Dd has now a temperature

OP posts:
Rosa · 03/05/2010 12:59

Oh no poor dd - hope it passes soon. Glad you managed a walk on the beach. It rained last night and this am - very humid and 'close' but now the sun is trying to come out. According to the meteo is should be chucking it down.
MM - Come on tell us all about it ......
I think I paid about Eu15 per child at the wedding for a primo and secondo and gelato. with caoke / fanta etc . In the Uk there were only a couple who ate the buffet and I know it was scontato. Only been to 1 wedding with the dds - it was all of us or nothing . It was pretty stressful but there were lots of 'zie' who took dd1 out to play between courses!

Francagoestohollywood · 03/05/2010 14:57

She has a bit of a temp and a bit of cough. She looks better today, so hopefully it's just a cold.
How is minirosa after the mmr?

OP posts:
Rosa · 03/05/2010 18:56

Fine at the moment thanks but they say febbre can be 7 days after and up to 14 as she had the varicella as well. Have to be careful as if she has a spot have to keep away from pregnant women / bambini esp if they have not had it so will be whizzing in dd to school and out again..Who knows she might not have anything.

giveitago · 03/05/2010 19:35

DD any better?

And is minirosa OK after her mmr?

Sputnik · 03/05/2010 20:21

My DD has a temp and cold too today, so off school. Didn't stop her going totally wild in bouncy castle heaven yesterday though.
I seem to remember the MMR reaction comes about 10 days after usually, though might be wrong about that.

Francagoestohollywood · 03/05/2010 20:44

Dd seems a bit better, but was a bit teary before dinner, which is very unusual, she is probably still feeling under the weather.

Hey sput, how are things?

OP posts:
Sputnik · 03/05/2010 21:25

Not bad. Recovering from bouncy castle hell yesterday.
It's not fair grown-up can't go on those things. We just have to put up with the incredible noise and hyper-excited kids.
And trying to book UK flights for the summer and wishing I'd done it months ago, as usual.

Francagoestohollywood · 03/05/2010 22:04

Oh yes, I'd love to go on bouncy castles. Mind you, the other day at a children's party I had a go at the corsa nel sacco and nearly peed myself after 3 jumps. I shouldn't have neglected pelvic floor exercises ...

Good morning ladies !!! Got back from London last night, had fabtastic weekend !!! This was the first reformed bar mitzvah I'd been too and the whole thing was amazingly child friendly. Even the synagogue which was in Radlett/Bushey was amazing, I didn't see the children throughout the service apart from when they brought them in to walk behind the bar mitzvah boy with the Torah !! The party too on Sunday had a magician, balloon guy, they even had their own meal. A lot of its to do with my cousin who is very modern thinking.
Had horrendous journey down, left Liverpool at 2 having had to get trye changed due to a flat and the hit a traffic jam at Knutsford for 2 hours ggggrrrrrrrr. No traffic at all to London but it was 8 before we got to Hotel in Elstree !! Sunday we ventured into London hoping to take the kids to natural history museum but the queue was crazy so just went to science museum before getting stranded in Finchley due to tree falling on the line !!! How do you peoples in London cope ???
Anyway just a few weeks to recover now before our trip to Sicily to visit family, can't wait, said in very sarcastic tones.

Rosa · 04/05/2010 10:23

Sput and Franca hope teh dds are better. I have paid for the mensa this month in a block rather than buoni and I am hoping that I have not shot myself in the foot for dd to now get sick. ( The block costs less).
Its piss*g down here and got soaked this am plus my raincpver for the bee has slit a bit so I am hoping they will send me another as its only going to get worse .
Bouncy castles we don't get many here so tahnkfully we are saved - mind you when we do get them they are not supervised well enough so dd tends to miss out ( bad mum!)
Glad the weekend well - sounds like your friend was well organised.
I have to book our return flights from the UK for the start of sept- I did get a bargain going up mind you Easy Jet and then the local flight I got for £29 each - mind you I have help going up but not coming back so minirosa is going to have a seat as otherwise it will be a complete nightmare.

Francagoestohollywood · 04/05/2010 10:38

Bnb, glad you had a good time in London, despite the traffic jam!

Dd seems a bit better and already complaining that she'd rather be at school. She is now getting ready for a match of rubamazzetto.

I still have to book our usual trip to the Eolian Islands, this time we are getting the train to Naples (but it's too early to book it) and the nave. I went yesterday to get out tickets, but Tirrenia had problems issuing the tickets... . I'm getting apprehensive now.

OP posts:
Francagoestohollywood · 04/05/2010 11:08

Hurrah, just talked to travel agent, the tickets for the ship are here!

It's raining cats and dogs here. The forecast is depressing and ds is going on a school trip on thursday...

Rosa · 04/05/2010 12:46

MM come back and tell us all about it ....
Good news re the tickets Franca now if Trenitalia managed to load the trains a bit more in advance that would help a bit !
I daren't look at the forecast .....

Francagoestohollywood · 04/05/2010 12:59

Yes, Masseuse come and tell us about India, instead of obsessing over RP ...

Rosa, apparently you can book trenitalia only 60 days in advance. But they do have 20% off for families of 4... speriamo in bene!

OP posts:
TheMysticMasseuse · 04/05/2010 13:03

Obsessing? Moi???

God, I am obsessing, it's true. But not about RP. I have just read the most amazing fanfic story and now I can think of nothing else

as soon as this wears off, i'll come back and tell you all, i promise.

Rosa · 04/05/2010 16:29

DOn't think I can do any more close encounters for a while BP will go sky high .....I had to hold his................................................................................................. ...............................................tape measure

Francagoestohollywood · 05/05/2010 10:48

No major news - but we're off to centre parcs for ds's birthday. Not India but it's all we can afford.

We're going to Italy for 10 days as soon as nursery breaks up for summer. Where the heck to you get these flight bargains - anyone 'cheaper' than easyjet to naples as I'm fed up of paying £500+.

I'm off to the nursery to do some reading with the kids and need to find my Jackanory voice. Hope ds won't be too put out by my presence as I don't want to cramp his style. Bless him.
