hello, ciao, etc

OP posts:
Sputnik · 10/09/2010 13:23

I bet it will look great Rosa.
So I am not the only one with an unfinished kitchen then. 12 months on and we are still without a door for the unit above the fridge as well as the bit that goes along the front to cover the legs. We have it but it's yet to be installed. I might have a go myself.

KWYM about awkward spaces, this is actually my first "proper" kitchen, the others have all been in muratura with improvised shelves, curtains instead of doors or homemade doors etc. It does make a difference. And pan drawers and pull out larders have been a life-changing experience for me Wink.

Rosa · 10/09/2010 13:38

When I am not stressed I dream about my new kitchen . Just something practical with a work surface not a table and all units not like you odd mish mash of space and things. I think I have filled every possible space with pull out units etc . I have 2 odd windows so not much cupboard space but I hope to use half of the 'lavanderia' as a larder and the other half as storage. Oh and the second bit of a lavanderia is going to be a second toilet also bliss as far as I am concerned......
I can forsee problmes with some of the other members of the condominium the only other young family she said she adapted to the ways of the older generations who command the place . I said that a washing line right outside my door ( at strangle height)I am not happy with and she said its been there for years and in the winter is a godsend - I suggested one that you pull out when needed to which I got a very strange look ( at my expense I added !!!). I think I am going to put a tumble drier on my Xmas list ......

Francagoestohollywood · 10/09/2010 14:45

Do you mean there is a washing line in frontof your entrance door rosa? Inside the building? Shock. Pull it out!!!

OP posts:
Sputnik · 10/09/2010 16:06

Yes that lavanderia sounds good for storage. I actually have all my food apart from tea and coffee in one tall unit 60 cm wide, and it's not even full. And I stock up on special offers.
You could keep your plates and serving bowls etc in the dining room area if you're short of space in the kitchen.
God I am becoming a kitchen nerd. I am not as boring as this in real lie, promise.
Actually it is all your fault for disappearing in august, I have been reading Apartment Therapy instead of MN.

Francagoestohollywood · 10/09/2010 16:58

Nothing wrong in being a kitchen nerd, imo Grin

I'm currently fantasizing about Antonius range at ikea.

OP posts:
BananaGio · 10/09/2010 19:01

I went to the apartment of friends we made in Follonica and had such a bad case of kitchen envy. Ultra modern, huge, sweeping work surfaces the width of my kitchen... Been very kitchen nerdy since and spend too much time on Ikea website.
Rosa can you imagine how you are going to feel when it is all done and you are there! After all the apartments you saw, bank meetings you had etc. It is going to be amazing!

BananaGio · 11/09/2010 19:42

soooo cross. We are going out with friends to an agriturismo tomorrow for lunch. We don't have a car so are borrowing FIL's. One of our friends said they would give us a lift but I told dp to say no as he knows damn well I won't go in the car with this friend with ds as he drinks and drives (and drives like a maniac!). So the friend is giving dp grief about me being cosi inglese blah blah and dp wouldn't back me-just muttered down the phone and tried to change subject. Is it me?? I am OK if someone has a couple of glasses of wine with lunch but he will drink loads plus have grappa etc and he already drives like a nutter. DP just told me he thinks I am over-reacting by not going Angry Angry and Angry again!
and breathe.....

Sputnik · 11/09/2010 20:34

YANBU.

BananaGio · 11/09/2010 20:52

cheers Sput Smile

Rosa · 12/09/2010 19:28

double anzi triple NBU for not going in the car with them .
We went to Gardaland today ...We must have been rsving mad ! But the dds had a good time and as they didd't know whet they missed out on as lines were a bit big it was ok . Going back at Xmas however as they are having a Xmas theme ......

Francagoestohollywood · 12/09/2010 21:30

Deffo not unreasonable Gio. I can not stand people who drive like nutters, and drink on top of it.
I know people who flaunt about speeding on autostrade, and I mean adult people with children, wtf?

grrrrr.

Today we took the dc to ikea for the first time. They loved it!!!

OP posts:
Sputnik · 12/09/2010 22:46

Really, first time! DS practically grew up in Ikea.
Get anything nice?

Rosa · 13/09/2010 13:03

Crikey must read before posting spelling was terrible. Ikea on a Sunday that was brave.... I know if I took DD I wouldn't get her out of the play area that is if I ever managed to get her a space to go in.
Can I ask is it legal to overtake on the inside here as yesterday there were some real nutters who were. I was stuck behind somebody who wouldn't move to the right hand lane - traffic in the fast lane so couldn't pull out guy overtook on inside then I pulled into fast lane to overtake the slow chap and this chap came up from the middle and in front of me ...... He wasn't the only one either. I am a right hand lane driver and pull out to overtake. PLus I have a big solid estate car with a big engine so it is a happy autostrada car IYKWIM.

Sputnik · 13/09/2010 16:05

Don't know if it's legal but they do it all the time here. Grr.
DS' first day back at nursery today, he was really happy to be back and got stuck in straight away. Just had enough time for a coffee and cornetto in santa pace (had been looking forward to that) and to take a load of stuff to the second hand shop. Managed to exit without buying anything either.

Rosa · 13/09/2010 19:31

Well done sput ds for launching in so well and lucky you for a coffee in peace ! the piles of stuff that I have to take to second hand shop / people who need the clothes seem to grow and grow..I will get it done seem sto be my motto !

Sputnik · 13/09/2010 20:00

Best get rid of your crap before moving! Mind you, I am still clearing stuff a year on. Kind of seeing the light at the end of the tunnel though. Now I have a tonne of stuff to ebay too.

Rosa · 13/09/2010 20:07

I am building up for E bay but have never sold on it so am a bit wary . I have a few 'label' clothes items - ralph lauren , burberry etc all in pretty good nick so I think they might sell. It is just getting round to it and getting the postage prices out of the post office ( think thats the bit that scares me most !)
Plus I have a delightful Capodi monte statue if you are interested think it still might have a bit of confetti stuck on the box as well it has never seen light of day !

Sputnik · 13/09/2010 21:07

Poste you can get all their rates off their website. Estero is here for example. You just need some reasonably accurate scales and don't forget to add the packaging weight. I ebay boden, gap etc stuff as it can fetch decent prices, the rest gets given away or goes to my Mum as she works in an oxfam shop. It's a bit of a faff doing the photos and descriptions though.

Francagoestohollywood · 13/09/2010 22:11

Yes, it was their first time! We got dd a desk (the micke one) and one of those big plastic box with lid for raccolta differenziata and various bits and pieces.

It is illegal to overtake that way, but as you know legality is all relative in italy, sadly.

Sput good to hear ds was happy to go back to nursery.

It was dd's first day at elementare today, she acted incredibly blasé Shock!

minervaitalica · 14/09/2010 11:50

Hello and well done to all those who are going back to school and are happy about it!(I was always miserable to start with...).

I used to do a lot of ebay before had DD - I sold some really ehm interesting items just for fun (half used bottles of perfume for a tenner anyone?). I agree with Sputnik - it is a faff to get the stuff posted on, so you need to really pick the stuff it is worth selling - and it's not always obvious what sells and what does not (see the perfume example above). It's worth spending some time looking for how similar items fare, the price, the category etc.

I also found that it makes a huge difference when you sell an item. If your sale ends on a sunday at 9am, then not many people will be on the computer to buy your item.

Gardaland at Xmas sounds veeeery good though... I may try and convince DH to go (obviously for the sake of DD Wink

Rosa · 14/09/2010 13:52

Thanks for the hints I must look photograph and then set by an afternoon to do it all obviously dd less ! I have a few grobags as well and a winter girls coat and a brand new leather bag ( its a trendy make but its red so I don't like it !)
Think we have picked the flooring today for the flat not as expensive as I thought ( strange) now need to go back to Ikea to see if the wood things I liked match . Now have to go on Enel Eni etc and change over the contratti to us- well in dh name as this place is in mine and if I do it then I get charged higher as its a seconda casa!

Sputnik · 14/09/2010 17:47

Rosa if you download turbolister from ebay it makes it all easier, esp if you have similar items, because you can make templates.

Francagoestohollywood · 15/09/2010 13:43

Ooooh I used to love going back to school, as I was desperate to see my friends... ds in fact seems to be quite happy to be back, exactly for the same reasons.

Dd on the other hand looks the part of the perfect school girl, but I know that deep down inside she is not 100% convinced. I think she had such a lovely time at materna that she is still thinking about it. In fact yesterday I took her to the party of a boy from materna and we stopped by and went to say hello to her old teachers and dd was over the moon to see them. They had a big group hug with the younger children and when even the commessa came to say hello I was in tears!!! I'm a saddo Grin

Rosa, which floor have you chosen?

OP posts:
Rosa · 16/09/2010 13:08

Franca what a big brave girl . I bet it was tearing you up inside watching her ! Hope that things are getting better and her confidence is increasing. Monday minirosa starts at the spazio cuccioli and I am trying to be 100% positive as I know she can pick up on my vibes.
DD has had 2 full days at materna and then today I got her at 1 .She did this huge scene about not wanting to come home screaming and tears etc . I was embarassed to say the least. However within 5 mins of coming home she was/is asleep. This no sleeping at the materna is going to take a long time to break. As it is she goes to bed at 8 -8.30 I can't put her in bed at 6.30 ! ( mind you in the winter I might just think about it !)
Flooring we have gone for wood in sala , bedrooms and tiles in the kitcehn , bathroom , toilet etc. I just need to get the tiles for the small toilet but they will be castorama on special offer I think !
Right I have to iron ( dh has been banned from wearing any more shirts it is polo shirts only from now on until my aiuto comes back from Ukraine at the end of October )

Francagoestohollywood · 16/09/2010 13:24

Dd was broke down in tears today when I left her, I think she is a bit overwhelmed by the noise/confusion (the classi prime meet inside the school's hall for the first few weeks and there's lots of children/parents etc) and by the fact that there are lots of children she doesn't know, even if she's in the same class as her best friend.

The teacher was very kind and held her hand, so she was a bit reassured. At pick up time she emerged all smiles and confidence and seems to have had a lovely morning. Lets hope for the best!

Rosa, I'm sure Minirosa will have a ball of a time at nido and I agree you'll have to show 100% confidence! Will there be a long settling in stage?
Skipping the afternoon nap is tricky, I know. At dd's materna only the 3 years old (and even some older ones) napped, while the older ones had quiet time in other parts of the school.
Dd skipped the afternoon nap quite early on, when she was 2.5 and slept at night from 8 to 8, which was enough to take her through the day.

Did you get dark or light wood?
