LOL Rosa, the doctor who treated DH apparently said everyone should fall down a manhole at least once in their life! I haven't questioned DH yet about his alcohol status at the time but I have my doubts. Luckily he didn't fall into sewage.

Tantik, where we lived outside Rome there was no problem with the scuole materne, in some small communi they need to keep the numbers up so very happy to give you a place. Where we lived was about an hour out of Rome, near a place called Poggio Mirteto, with a good train, eventually DH couldn't handle the commute any longer though, and our family life was suffering so we moved. The quality of the schools was a bit patchy there though tbh, some good some bad. The one I visited here when (fruitlessly) trying to enrol DS was much nicer than my DD's materna outside Rome.

We are now in EUR just outside the GRA, if you go even further out it becomes quite a posh area and there are lots of private materne, also because state ones are very thin on the ground here. If you email me on [email protected] I can go into more detail.

Cake done and it was ok . SIL nearly wore it as I said I made you crema pasticcera at 5.30am she said 'you could have made it yesterday so it would have soaked in a bit more' . ACtually I have a life as well but don't let that worry you eh?
Today we have the saggio di inglese and the wind is getting up so I hope the bad weather holds off until after it is finished.
I spoke to the teacher than mentioned this reading stuff and she has to speak again to the main english teacher as the ozzie woman has offered to come back.......Speriamo also the teacher I know is going on mat leave very soon .
Right ironing to do now....

Francagoestohollywood · 27/05/2010 12:55

Gosh rosa, your sil is a bit , isn't she.

It rained heavily here, and now it's dark again. It better not though, as today we have:

  • dd's school fete
  • ds has his football training and the pizzata with the team.

Good grief Rosa! Your SIL likes soggy cakes, she is beyond hope!

For those of you avidly following my summer footwear dilema, I finally got these in brown. They are £££ but I am happy!

Francagoestohollywood · 27/05/2010 14:05

Oh wow Sputnik, I didn't know Timberland could be so stylish! Belli!

I'm still stuck with sandals. Perhaps I should stick to my birkenstok and treat myself to a new pair next summer

Francagoestohollywood · 27/05/2010 17:16

I'm still recovering from the emotions of dd's "festa dei remigini" (remigini in Milan are the children in their last year at materna).
Every one got emotional, the parents, the children and the teachers (some actually cried !).

OP posts:
Francagoestohollywood · 27/05/2010 18:32

and they also did a song in english, about not putting their fingers in the nose

OP posts:
Rosa · 27/05/2010 18:37

ohhh find that for me so I can try that out. I did heads / shoulders etc and the ones next year want to do it as well !!!!!
We had the school main festa last week and some genitori were a bit emotional as well Thank heavens I have another 2 years !!!!

Francagoestohollywood · 27/05/2010 18:44

I'll ask the teachers if they know the title. The children do english with a teacher who comes 1 a week, he works for other materne.

One of my fav songs from the bbc cd we listen to in the car is: I jump out of bed and this is what I do, I wash my face, wash my face, wash my face..." do you know it?

Rosa · 27/05/2010 19:17

Oh we do that one at home with dd and we do lots of I skip to school , skip to school ....That is one that could be good to do with them but does go on a bit !
I am hoping that I might get some more materne as I do enjoy them but time will tell ! PLus I need to get my backside in gear and do some qualifications !

Francagoestohollywood · 27/05/2010 19:20

Dd's favourite, from when she was at nursery in the UK is "Miss Polly had a dolly who was sick sick sick"

OP posts:

DD used to sing "Miss Ponky had a donkey"!
You could always sing "Head, shoulders knees and toes, don't stick your fingers up your nose". In fact I think I'll try that on DD.

She is doing an end of term assembly, but we don't get to see it this time, I am gutted as she has the main part, opposite the headmaster no less, and they are going to sing this together. He is a bit of a 60's music fan it seems, as their last assembly featured The Beatles and Eric Clapton.

Francagoestohollywood · 27/05/2010 21:34

lol at miss ponkey had a donkey!

What a shame you are not invited to the assembly sput, it sounds like good fun!

Rosa · 28/05/2010 12:52

Wacky headmaster does he get his guitar out as well ?
Think the don't stick your fingers up your nose is a good one seeing as there is a fair bit of that around !

Sputnik · 28/05/2010 15:22

Yes he does get his guitar out!
I can see him 40 years ago in a kaftan. He now resembles a teddy bear.

lol at wacky 60's headmaster Sput. I remember when I was in primary school and at a very culturally mixed school we used to sing Barry Manilow songs in assembly due to headmasters preferences - have had a soft spot for Manilow ever since-happy memories.
ds had his recita on friday. was sooooo lovely even though ds spent the first half hour looking like he was going to be shot or cry! they did their English section with songs and stories about the polar ice caps melting - v cute. ds has had febbre for 2 days now with has put a stop to our beach plans for today (selfish mamma emoticon)

BananaGio · 30/05/2010 10:34

culturally mixed school meaning we weren't allowed to sing the hymns etc that were the norm every morning back in 70's Britain then - hence the Manilow
Am waffling-off for another coffee!

BananaGio · 30/05/2010 10:34

Oh and Sput - glad it went well with ds and hope dh OK after his manhole experience

Rosa · 30/05/2010 13:06

Gio he probably got aria or was excited after the festa !!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Crappio weather up here anyway this pm me thinks it will be cooking or something to try and keep them both amused !

Francagoestohollywood · 31/05/2010 09:20
