I hate were we are living now with a passion, I am so miserable that it is starting to affect my relationship with dp.

WE live in Lancashire and have been looking at Yorkshire, but I just can't find anywhere that I like and the reason is that I want to go back to London. I have finally ground dp down and he is willing to look at London - but now is the hard bit - finance!

I don't see how we can do it, our present house is worth about £145,000, our mortgage is about £100,000. Our household income is about £40-45K.

I have enquired about shared ownership and key worker schemes as I am teacher so should be eligble but of course I couldn't get a teaching job in London without somewhere to live, and I am not eligible for any of the schemes without a job.

Am I going to be stuck living in a place I hate forever ?

Is there a way out? Is there a way for us to buy in London?

tell me what you want, I love looking for houses!

And what areas you would consider, plus would you go for ex council?

TwinSetAndPearls · 24/07/2005 21:04

Dp won't do ex council as he grew up on a council estate so has a phobia of them!

The only part of bristol i know is clifton which will be out of my budget so I am going blind!

We want three bedrooms, two receptions ( an adult room and play room - I will be childminding until dd is settled in school so the playroom is quite imprtant.) and a kitchen we can eat in, garden at back but doesn't have to be grassed - although it woud be nice.

In terms of area, I don't drive so needs to have good bus links, family orientated, a place where I will be able to take dd, go out and hopefully make friends.

Is a coffee bar nearby pshing my luck??

£175Kmax again, according to dp we are not bothered about having to do work on the place - I am not taking ownership of this statment due to laziness

WideWebWitch · 24/07/2005 21:16

tell us which one and I'll tell you what I know

Janh · 24/07/2005 21:17

Very nice - but garden on to river = possible flood risk - you'd have to investigate that (could mean huge insurance premiums)

Caligula · 24/07/2005 21:17

Keeps coming up with Local people selling Local homes!

Where is it, Royston Vasey?

CD, find me somewhere! Budget is £215,000ish. I want London but would consider Brighton, definitely. Like SE and SW London. Desperately want garden and reasonable sized kitchen. Also want 3 beds if at all possible or very big 2 bed if not. Ex-council is fine as long as not in isolated estate.

TwinSetAndPearls · 24/07/2005 21:22

oi I got here first!

OP posts:
TwinSetAndPearls · 24/07/2005 21:23

ignore me I am only jealous cos your budget is bigger than mine.

ScummyMummy · 24/07/2005 21:24

I'm exaggerating it to give CD a chance, twinset.

tortoiseshell · 24/07/2005 21:24

Hmm, don't want to put a dampener on, but is right next to M32 which is a hideously busy motorway, so you have to imagine virtually stationary traffic for at least 2 hours in morning, 2 hours in evening. Also Eastville really isn't great as an area - that side of the motorway might be fine, the other side is really not - lots of notices about kerb-crawling etc.

Have you looked at Southville, Westbury-on-Trym, Bishopston? They are all nice areas that are a bit cheaper than the Clifton premiums.

TwinSetAndPearls · 24/07/2005 21:25

thanks!

tortoiseshell · 24/07/2005 21:28

Property Ref: 185722 Property Ref: 368946 on this website

tortoiseshell · 24/07/2005 21:29

Bedminster is ok - very 'local' Bristol. Don't know it very well though. There is a big Asda!

WideWebWitch · 24/07/2005 21:31

Hmm, I don't know Eastville but its reputation aint great. ha ha Caligula!

WideWebWitch · 24/07/2005 21:33

It depends v much on where in Bedminster. The Chessels is on the left hand side of North St and is cheaper that rh side - the right hand side is considered Southville and is therefore expensive because it's got The Tobacco Factory (arts/theatre/bars) and is walking distance to the centre. Bedminster Down isn't nice, but some other parts are ok I think. Let me look at the rd and I'll tell you what I think. hang on
