What factor sun cream do you wear?

Dh and I were talking about when we were kids and high factor sun cream was 8, and most of the time we wore SPF4 (we're both in our late 30s, so this was the 70s).
Now we routinely wear SPF30 and both of us have quite "tough" skins, not sensitive at all.

So what SPF do you wear?

Some people should never be allowed near swimwear.

fishfinger · 18/07/2005 09:50

HappyDaddy · 18/07/2005 09:53

Why were your coconuts in a bikini top? Shouldn't they be in the fridge or something?

almostanangel · 18/07/2005 09:54

bite my lip!![i wont say it i wont i wont]

HappyDaddy · 18/07/2005 09:55

Why do people not apply sun cream properly and then complain about being burnt? Bit obvious that you'll get burnt, isn't it?

emmatmg · 18/07/2005 09:58

Until this year I used 6 or 8 but have become quite paranoid about the sun and burning so I won't go below 15 now.

Kids wear 30 or above.

DH should also wear 30 beacuse he burns really easily but will only wear 15. Silly man.

HappyDaddy · 18/07/2005 10:03

AAA what wont you say? Or was that post designed to get me to ask just that? In that case, forget I asked.

almostanangel · 18/07/2005 10:05

HappyDaddy · 18/07/2005 10:11

Going to start another thread, then?

gingerbear · 18/07/2005 10:12

I have pale blue skin that goes white after a week then pink after the second week.
As a kid we used Scholl sun oil. It was factor 2 and really oily - left a slick in the water! Anyone remember that?? The number of times I had horrible sunburn on holiday & peeled. I hated my brother - he always went brown.

Nowadays I am very cautious. In UK & Europe, SPF30, in Asia/Aus I always used SPF50 or total block.

DD has UV swimsuit and factor 30 when we were in Spain last month. We also had a beach tent and followed the spaniards - early morning on the beach , back for a long lunch and siesta, then back on the beach at 5-6pm until late. It was great - no one got burnt!

almostanangel · 18/07/2005 10:13

to be honest hd im too scared too lol! keep thinking before i type[not like me] and its hard

HappyDaddy · 18/07/2005 10:14

Silly question, maybe. Why use different strengths of suncream depending on country you are in? Surely the UV and sun power is just as strong here now?

charleepeters · 18/07/2005 10:15

I wear the strongest i can find i have factor 100 this year for DS, i put it on but dont see the point how ever much i wear i get burnt

HappyDaddy · 18/07/2005 10:16

They do factor 100 now? Excellent, I'll get some. I know you're supposed to put cream on every 30 mins and before and after swimming but I still burn like a piece of bacon under the grill.

NomDePlume · 18/07/2005 10:16

SPF15 for me
SPF50 Block for DH, DS1, DS2 & DD

charleepeters · 18/07/2005 10:17

Its a baby suncream happyDaddy - but its the strongest i could find, DS hasnt got burnt - hes got a fab tan though
Im brown but thats only arfter bieng painfully burnt by faulty Wilkinsons suncream

NomDePlume · 18/07/2005 10:19

DH and the kids all wear 'baby' sunscreen, it's the only thing that'll protect their skin sufficiently.
