Our poor child, if a ds, will be without a name if you don't help us! Okay, so I am not due for another 7+ months but we'd like a Welsh boys name and any suggestions would be gratefully received.

Our surname has lots of "L"s and "O"s in it if that helps.

I have a ds called Owen. It's a lovely name

moonunit · 13/07/2005 00:06

My ds is called Rogan, welsh for red haired one, tho his hair is dark brown. Sorry just realised it's Irish, not welsh, i must go to bed, my head is getting to fuzzy to think now. It's still a nice name tho, isin't it?

BibiTwo · 13/07/2005 09:53

Thanks, loads to be getting on with. I have various cousins covering about 50% of those names though, so that's why we're stuck. My absolute favourite is Iolo but with Holloway it sounds quite ridiculous!!!

Emrys

cerys · 13/07/2005 09:58

Hi Bibi, can't think of anything not already suggested, but just to let you know that Osian seems to be mega popular at the moment. I had never heard the name before but have encountered several baby/toddler boys recently with that name.
If I am remembering your DDs name correctly, I guess you might want to avoid Dylan or you'll be copying Catherine Zeta Jones!

Flamesparrow · 13/07/2005 10:00

Lol - Iolo Holloway might be a bit cruel. Like when my dad suggested calling me Alison harrison!

edam · 13/07/2005 10:11

My favourites are:
Bryn (as in Terfel - means 'hill' though which is a bit of a nothing meaning for a name)
Evan (Ifan)
Gruff(ydd)
Owain
Lloyd
Dewi (although I'd have to put Dafydd on the birth certificate...)

Ds's name is in that list, as is the name of any future brother he may have!

TinyGang · 13/07/2005 10:14

Vaughan (Little one)

fqueenzebra · 13/07/2005 10:14

Isn't Alun Welsh? I like that one.

luckylady · 13/07/2005 10:16

TG- Vaughan is my maiden name....

luckylady · 13/07/2005 10:16

How about Kyan

Flamesparrow · 13/07/2005 10:17

Yup Alun's welsh

BibiTwo · 13/07/2005 10:19

It's quite spooky going through the lists, I either know the names from cousins, uncles, ex boyfriends or old men who drank in the working means club I used to work in .

Gruffydd is my absolute favourite ever, but dh says I could pick any other name in the world and he'd prefer it to that.

Cerys, you're right about dd and Dylan! Wouldn't want to copy the CZJ, even though I really like it, it's erally, really popular at the moment.

SoupDragon · 13/07/2005 11:16

loulabelle222, dd in welsh is a TH sound like in "the" I think.

logic · 13/07/2005 11:18

I really like Rhydian. It was on my shortlist, means ford I think...

moondog · 13/07/2005 11:47

gruffy dee dee !
lol loula!

'Griffith' (soft 'f' and 'th' pronounced like in the word 'the')

moondog · 13/07/2005 11:48

Sorry,I'm going bonkers. 'dd' at end pronounced as 'th' in 'the'

Tippytoes · 13/07/2005 12:04

Arfon is another nice one!

Lonelymum · 13/07/2005 12:10

Call him GWYN please! I was always going to have a little boy called Gwyn, since I was a teenager, but then I married an Irish Australian and my three boys all have Irish names instead! So spiritually speaking, there is a Gwyn floating around somewhere with no little boy to belong to.

spacecadet · 13/07/2005 13:31

I went to school with two Gethins, quite like the name myself.

Love Geraint and Owain as well - they're on the middle name shortlist
