Does anyone have any dubious connections with famous people.. for eg my best friend at school once stroked Eric Claptons dog and another friend of mine ,during her nursing training, tested Dick Emerys urine. I used to be treated by an osteopath who later treated Emma Bs (spice girl) mum.

My most famous moment was having lunch with Daley Thompson. I used to look after the corporate hospitality stuff for Coke at Wimbledon and we had a big hospitality marquee. Lots of famous people used to mill around the hospitality area as they would be guests of other companies and for some reason Daley Thompson popped into ours one day. I did my sad PR bit and welcomed him in and introduced him to some of our most prestigous guests (puke, puke) and then he asked me if I would be interested in joining him for lunch. Naturally, I said no .............. only joking. Had a lovely two and a half hour lunch with him, managed not to dribble as I watched his 6 pack ripple underneath his shirt. Mmmmm!

CAM, just spotted your message-I'm amazed!!! I was in Preston and we were exactly the same!! The bad thing was when he was leaving all the v young Saturday girls who I was in charge of kept going up to him and getting autograph's for their Mums. There was a bit of a mis-understanding because within earshot of him I said to the girls "look, stop harrassing him or he won't leave a tip!" Meaning it in a "back off you're getting a bit silly now girls" kind of way. But I think he took it a bit too literally and therefore, you guessed it, didn't leave a tip!! Oh the shame.....

Lizzer · 03/07/2001 21:41

Hi again Cam - sorry, but he's NOT gorgeous even now, this only happened 5 yrs ago!

Sylvev · 03/07/2001 22:00

I have a few: Top of the list has to be stealing a kiss from Paul Weller. This was after a Jam concert back in the late 70s. He was rather shy, sweet and spotty!

When I was about 20 years old, Eddie Kid bought me a prawn cocktail at an Italian restaurant.

I saw Bonny Tyler buying a handbag in a London store, I was on a school trip!

We ate in the same vegetarian restaurant in Birmingham as Jaspar Carrott. He was sitting at the next table. We all sat expectantly waiting for him to be amusing until my (soon-to-be) mother-in-law announced more loudly than she should have, that she thought his current series a little flat and uninspired. He visibly flinched!

The woman who used to play Miranda Pollard in the original Crossroads now owns and works in a hairdressers where my children nave haircuts.

Rhiannon · 03/07/2001 22:27

I used to be a very good friend of Ross Kemp's ten years plus ago. No nothing like that. Just a friend. I wasn't able to watch Eastenders after he got the part as it always seemed so strange he on it. He took me round the set and showed me Lou Beale's grave - very moving!!

Tigger · 04/07/2001 09:09

My dad was the chairman of our local Agricultural Show in 1981 and the then Miss World, Phillin Leon (Miss Venezuala)came to our show as the celebrity for that year, and I had my lunch with her and my mum and dad. I also met Noel Edmonds, Diana Dors, Worzel Gummidge, Tony Blackburn and other people as well, as my dad always took me to meet them when they came to the show.

Rhiannon · 04/07/2001 11:50

Tigger, funny you mention Worzel Gummidge, I used to love that programme and would love it to be repeated. You can't remember if it was on ITV or BBC can you?

Worzel was on ITV. I don't know anyone whose ever been Chair of a board, except on local charities etc, nothing famous.

I spoke to Zoe Ball once about 3 years ago at a roadshow. Not very riveting really compared to some of the things other people have done.

Cam · 05/07/2001 16:00

Dear Lizzer
What a mean person AS was! No, he's NOT gorgeous and never was, don't know why Liza Goddard married him. I was referring to Terence Stamp as gorgeous. But then, I'm old enough to remember him in "Far From The Madding Crowd".

Midge · 05/07/2001 21:01

I used to drink in Robert Plants local a lot years ago, he lives a couple of miles away, and sorry to any closet Led Zepellin fans out there but the guys a prat. His ex wife Maureen is lovely.

I can hear a collection of mumsnet contributors wondering "who the hell is Robert Plant......?"

Midge · 05/07/2001 21:03

I forgot, I agree Terence Stamp is still gorgeous - he has that undefinable "IT" doesnt he

Lizzer · 06/07/2001 12:23

Cam, Doh! I was being a bit thick there wasn't I - after re-reading what you wrote - was a bit worried about you for a minute there! I have to admit, though, that I don't know who Terence Stamp is so at least can't pass judgement on him - what else has he been in, is he v old now?

Cam · 06/07/2001 15:22

Dear Midge
We used to call him Robert Planet (as in, which one is he on thinking he's so great). Glad you agree about T. Stamp

Dear Lizzer
More recently, he has been in "Priscilla, Queen of the Desert" which, although a superb acting performance, won't reveal his fanciability so much! (But he's not gay in real life)

Lizzer · 06/07/2001 17:04

Cam, now I know who you mean and no, I didn't see the fwoarh factor in him in that particular role!

Another fame related story of mine is after Take That splitting up (trauma!) Mark ( the cute little one) was rumoured to have moved up here to my neck of the woods. My friends decided to track him down (in a totally non-offensive, un-stalker like way, you understand!)They worked out which house was his in a little village nearby then knocked on the door. When he answered they announced "we're your new neighbours, can we borrow a cup of sugar?!" He asked if they were really neighbours? They said "No, but we do need some sugar!" For their cheekiness they got invited in for a coffee,(or so they said) and very jealous I was indeed. Although I'd never admit to being a Take That fan at the time - far too mainstream for a wannabe rebelious teen like me! They were great though, anyone agree?!

I used to sell cigarettes to Barry Sheene as he lived in our village. I went to a Barn Dance in his Barn once.

Marina · 09/07/2001 09:37

Batters, that has to be a new low in celebrity spotting. I hope Martin was not in Men Behaving Badly mode.
I sold bread rolls and milk to Kate Bush in my local M & S where I had a student job. This was at the height of her fame in 1982 and I was a massive fan. I nearly passed out too but dared say nothing except, that will be £1.50 please. Sigh.
A friend of mine still has a tatty and unplayable Abba compilation tape, made for her by the lonely and rather sweet little boy next door while she was staying with cousins in Essex. It was Damon Albarn!
Lizzer, we often see Rowan Atkinson pootling about the NW lakes when visiting my parents. I think it's because he went to St Bees? Not yet spotted "enjoying" M & S in Workington funnily enough.

Rhiannon · 09/07/2001 20:29

I saw Jeremy Bates the tennis player at Legoland today!!!!!!!!!I know so exciting, thought he might have been watching the final.

Kia · 09/07/2001 21:06

A couple of weeks ago I was at a conference in a hotel by Lords cricket ground. It shows what an old fart I've become since I only recognised Ian Botham, having sat through most of the day with various English, Pakistan and Australian teams wandering around and not recognised a single one! Having been made to watch them on TV and having been intensively coached by my cricket mad son, I wont make the same mistake again, will I?! They're worried I might ask the waiter for his autograph next.

Lizzer · 09/07/2001 21:07

Yeah, Rhiannon you'd think that if you played tennis as a career and you had been there yourself that it may be of some interest to you?! Especially, like, the men's FINAL - maybe he was just sulking cos he's not that good anymore....! How was legoland? I've not been yet - is there much to do for toddlers?

Cam · 09/07/2001 21:38

How sweet that he was putting his children first....I assume he was there with his children?!!!
