My pregnant cousin " i think i will be having a girl as i have noticed butch women make boys and i am quite feminine" i at the time had two boys

koalabear · 28/06/2005 15:06

comment to me post pregnancy - "wow, you've lost weight - you used to look like a teletubby"

koalabear · 28/06/2005 15:07

oh, and of course, regarding 6 month old son with reflux "of course he's being sick - it's your breast milk"

madmarchhare · 28/06/2005 15:08

fairyfly. This old bloke looked in on my peacefully sleeping DS (almost 19months) and said 'has he started swearing yet?' Eh?

flamesparrow · 28/06/2005 15:09

I love that FF!!!

Cleaner guy in the lift with me on my leaving work to have a baby lunch day - 8 months gone (so holding "Having a baby" balloons)

This guy had seen me 5 days a week for a year...

"Oh, are you pregnant then?"

Twiglett · 28/06/2005 15:11

I think the 'teletubby' comment is quite cute actually

starlover · 28/06/2005 15:12

with 4 day old ds in the foyer leading into the maternity unit, waiting for dp to pick us up.

old man- "awww, is he ill?"

me- "no, he's just been born"

Lizzylou · 28/06/2005 15:13

A man in a shop said my DS (then 5mths) looked like Wayne Rooney! He couldn't understand why I then took offence...

Chandra · 28/06/2005 15:15

Two weeks after DS started going to nursery:

"Friend": Is your DS having a horrible time in the nursery?
me: No, he seems happy and the staff keep telling us what a placid baby he is
"friend": Sure, if you had bonded correctly he wouldn't be that happy

koalabear · 28/06/2005 15:17

oh Chandra - what sort of friend is that!

sorry... if you had bonded he wouldn't be happy???

what's that suposed to mean?

Chandra · 28/06/2005 15:20

hence the "s.

She also told me that DS will give me lots of problems as a teenager while her DD (then one year old) was going to be fine, as babies who are hard work become excellent teenagers!

starlover · 28/06/2005 15:21

ahhhhhh.... so she's jealous!

bakedpotato · 28/06/2005 15:24

Me when pregnant (to child-free friend): 'I promise that when I have this baby I won't talk about it all the time'

Surfermum · 28/06/2005 15:24

MIL - "you put her on a potty yet?".

Me - "um, no she's only 9 months old".

MIL - "well you need to start getting her used to it".

Chandra · 28/06/2005 15:25

Starlover, she seemed to extend the relationship between being clingy to bonding a little too much. So, as she had her girl turned down from nursery because she did not stop crying every single hour during the week she spend there, she assumed that DS didn't love me enough to miss me or that he was happier at the nursery than with me

She simply couldn't understand that children are different.

Chandra · 28/06/2005 15:27

Oh the potty...

MIL told me that a friend from the family was potty trained at 5m old as he had very bad eczema (such as mine). I still wonder how to potty train a child who can not even sit unaided

saadia · 28/06/2005 15:46

People who used to assume that my ds was bored at home (before he started nursery at 3), and would be OK when he started nursery. He was absolutely fine.

I used to chat to him all day, play with him, try to include him in whatever I was doing - and if he did get bored, well I think it's good for children to be bored sometimes so they can figure out ways to amuse themselves.

expatinscotland · 28/06/2005 15:54

'I thought you were fat when you got pregnant.'

I had hypertension and gained about 3 stone in water weight. I was back in my size 10 jeans 2 months later, when someone - whom I'd met when I was 8 months along - saw me post-delivery.

QueenOfQuotes · 28/06/2005 16:01

when DS1 was 3 weeks old he got laryngitis (that was fun trying to 'learn' your childs crys when they can't cry LOL). Took him to the Dr.s who asked me "is he sleeping at night".

me: "no he doesn't sleep through yet"

him "oh that's not good"

me "what do you mean"

him "not sleeping"

me "well he is only 3 weeks old AND I'm Breastfeeding"

him "hmmmmmm"

Think he must have been having an 'off' day as I saw him several times when DS1 was little and apart from that one occasion he was always fantastic - and very supportive of me when DS1 got his umpteenth chest infection.

DaddyCool · 28/06/2005 16:06

i was starving and i was taking ds for a walk when he was very small (only a couple months) and i popped in to mcdonalds to grab a cheeseburger (i know, i know, i'm a cretin) and this women yelled at me accusingly "a bit early to start him on that isn't it!!"

yes, i gave my 2 month old son a cheeseburger... oh and i thought i would give him some salty fries at the same time... maybe when i get home i'll give him some of my scotch and a cafe creme! silly bloody bint.

northerner · 28/06/2005 16:11

My Mum to me:

'Well, you were really advanced as a baby. You were walking at 6 months, potty trained at 12 months, could write your name aged 2 and could read ladybird books aged 3.'

Err, yeah right Mum!!!
