And the worse thing is, it seems 49% of "people" (are they human?!) agree it should stay in place. I was very young when Thatcher brought this in, but I don't understand how it was made law without anyone demonstrating against it.

The way catholic schools were run in the 60's and 70's is very different to the way that they are run now. Many people have denounced the faith because of their school experiences which is a shame, it's the people who caused the problems, not the faith.

As you can tell Tinker, I am a Catholic and my dd will be going to a Catholic school to learn about that particular faith and to make her Holy Communion and Confirmation. The school has strong links with the church so when she goes to Sunday school she will hopefully see lots of her classmates there too. And they put on plays in the church, make mosiacs, etc.

These are my reasons for sending her to a religious school. But if I thought they were stifling her inquisitive mind I would have serious words. For me religion is all about seeking knowledge and truth and children should be allowed to explore other religions too. Luckily the Church these days encourages this and is much more ecumenical in it's approach.

Hi Tinker, I was at school during the 1980's and I don't think either the parents or pupils in my school would have tolerated being sent to apologise to the nuns for taking a healthy interest in religion. To be honest, there was usually such total inertia about religion that any pupil asking a question would probably have been rewarded!
If your daughter's school is non-religious then surely they will look at lots of different religions & therefore it is unlikely that any one faith will be presented as "the truth".

I can't believe people actually thought like this.

@Sml Have your views changed at all in the past 20 years, or do you still hold such homophobic views?
