WHAT BABY PRODUCT COULDN'T YOU DO WITHOUT?

Rhiannon · 16/06/2001 17:46

I've found the baby intercom (Tomy Walkabout 2000)very handy although I can't find the downstairs one at the moment, I've started to turn out cupboards in the hope it'll turn up.

Britax car seat (the polystyrene one) suitable from 9 months upwards although I found it only useful from 18 months up as they both fell out the side of the seat belt when they went sleep in the car.

Does anyone else find that with Piriton it knocks them out but they wake up really irritable? Drives me mad!

codswallop · 11/06/2003 21:29

medised is my tipple

Claireandrich · 11/06/2003 21:31

Piriton doesn't make DD drowsy at all - shame sometimes really It does stop her nose from running all day long though.

Another 'can't do without' - my car seat. We have the Britax Romer Duo - it is an ISOFIX seat. It's nrilliant and so stable. Couldn't do without that one.

MABS · 11/06/2003 21:31

M2T - totally agree.

aloha · 11/06/2003 21:43

I found out about Medised from Mumsnet. Fantastic. Recommend it to all my haggard new mum friends.

mammya · 11/06/2003 22:18

sleeping bag, anyway up cup, Tamsit chair harness, pinpon rucksack, toilet training seat, video (not strictly a baby product but there you go...)

M2T · 11/06/2003 22:22

Mammya - totally with on the video thing! Tweenies are invaluable for ds when dp and I get ready for work in the morning! Ds watches it while he has his toast. DP and I run around like mad people getting things organised.

I'm probably a bad mum for breeding a telly addict, but I'm one and I turned out ok....... I think.

I agree with pupuce on the wipes issue. My DD has incredibly sensitive skin and she gets a very red and sore-looking bottom if we use the 'sensitive' wipes for just one nappy change. She is 10 months old now and it hasn't been incovenient in the slightest.

However, I don't agree with her 'no meds' policy. I know for a fact that I will do anything in my power to help my child feel better and if that means a dose of Calpol, then so be it. Fits resulting from high temperature are much more common and dangerous than side effects from recommended use of Calpol/Nurofen.

tommee tippee travel potty like rhiannon said. Has definitely been my best buy. Next was baby bjorn sling and then, not essential baby buy but one of those little slides for babies/toddlers. If anyone wants a third hand one and is around London, I have one to give.

Furball · 15/06/2003 21:04

Rock-a-tot car seat - I wondered how I would cope without it, Ds would happily be transported from car to house to car to supermarket etc, literally none the wiser.

Dinny · 15/06/2003 22:41

Baby Bjorn sling was my lifesaver for 6 months - only way to soothe dd for months. Reluctantly gave it up 2 months ago - dd sooo heavy. May try the hip sling. Re. Calpol/Ibuprofen - why on earth would you be anti-painkillers (in moderation, natch)? Surely if child in pain, apply painkiller....?

Bobsmum · 15/06/2003 23:22

What age can you give Medised from? Is it prescription only? ds is 9 months and currently suffering from what looks suspiciously like hayfever,

ninja · 16/06/2003 07:58

dinny - john lewis sell hip eats and if you use the code hsbc you get £15 off (this is for ny order over £30) - bargin!

ninja · 16/06/2003 07:59

don't know what hip eats are - but hip seats can be bought from jl

Get the 3+ months medised. Its in a pink box, and you can get it from the pharmacy at Boots. They also do one for older kids - make sure you get the right one. HTH

SimonHoward · 21/08/2003 16:32

One thing I could not do without is DD's favorite toy, makes life and getting her to sleep so much easier.

honeybunny · 22/08/2003 22:13

Blankety Bear and posset cloth for ds1
Lambchop and "Dreamscape for ds2
All essential for peaceful nighttimes.
Brio/Tesco wooden train set- double sided knife this one. They either fight over it horribly or play really sweetly for hours.

fisil · 23/08/2003 12:59
