Help - what am I going to call db if it is a boy?

dh and I want a Gaelic first name for our db. We have a girls name all sorted, but just don't know about a boy's name. We both like Cameron and Calum, but tbh neither really lights my candle. I have looked on loads of websites but can't find anything I really like. Any suggestions?

Middle name will be Hugh, btw.

What age could they choose them, though? Can you imagine the possibilities - children called Spiderman or Thierry Henry or Spongebob Squarepants?

jangus · 27/05/2005 15:20

Miaou... don't think I have anymore ideas. I'm supposed to be looking for houses (whoops) and DH will be back in 30 mins.
good luck. Can't wait to see what you pick!

I'm off too, good luck with namehunt Miaou and househunt jangus!

jangus · 27/05/2005 15:20

I don't know... Spongebob has a nice ring to it!

Thanks all for your input. Will let you know what we decide (at this rate it might be on the day the baby is born, though!!)

Love Caleb, but is it Gaelic?? Surely it's biblical - Joshua and Caleb went to Jericho. Great name though and lots of other good suggestions here!

What's your girls name Miaou?

BEWARE Cameron! It is becoming hugely poular as a girls name now. Also, as a Scot in exile, one of the reasons i didn't go for Cameron (although dh liked it) was that when I was growing up boys invariably had it shortened to Cammy which I loathe.

Miaou · 27/05/2005 15:59

The girls are called Caitlin and Eilish, tassis. They have very English middle names - Hannah and Lucy - so that they had something more "ordinary" to go for if they decided they hated their names! They were both born in England where no-one had ever heard their names before - a bit less difficult now we are in Scotland!

Me and my dh love Flynn. It derives from Ireland and means flame haired son.

Miaou · 27/05/2005 16:02

IKWYM re Cameron, Yeahbut - it's very popular now, which is one of the reasons why I am less keen on it than I was - and Cammy makes me think of Camiknickers!

Alec is nice.... would have to change the middle name (Hugh) though or it would become Alicyoo ...

Angus, Erle, Douglas, or Hamish?....

FIMAC1 · 27/05/2005 16:16

Oohh, or Ewen or Ewan?

These are all family christian names, I try and think of some more

bonym · 27/05/2005 16:18

Going back to the beginning of this thread, my friend's son is Caleb, pronounced Cal - eb which is apparently the Welsh pronounciation. I think that Kay -leb is the Old English pronounciation (which is more commonly used).

bonym · 27/05/2005 16:21

Actually, just checked and Caleb (Kay - leb) is Hebrew.
