Help - what am I going to call db if it is a boy?

Miaou · 27/05/2005 14:05

dh and I want a Gaelic first name for our db. We have a girls name all sorted, but just don't know about a boy's name. We both like Cameron and Calum, but tbh neither really lights my candle. I have looked on loads of websites but can't find anything I really like. Any suggestions?

Middle name will be Hugh, btw.

Where are you getting all your information from, Janh?

There are only 2 Dougals - the Magic Roundaboutone and the Father Ted one - either of them a fine namesake for a small boy!

Jan... you seem to have a vast knowledge on this stuff...please don't tell me that you just 'know' it!!!

Janh · 27/05/2005 15:00

Behind the Name , Miaou - I linked to it earlier but I think you missed it - has billions of names, some of them usable!

elsmommy · 27/05/2005 15:02

Darce and Kane, I think they're gaelic!!!

jangus · 27/05/2005 15:03

Fraser?

jangus · 27/05/2005 15:03

Miaou · 27/05/2005 15:03

what about Angus?
Greg/or

Janh · 27/05/2005 15:05

Yes, Fraser's nice - also, how about Fingal, like the cave?

FINGAL
Gender: Masculine
Usage: Scottish
Anglicized form of the Gaelic name Fionnghall, which meant "white stranger" from fionn "white, fair" and gall "stranger". This was the name of the hero in James Macpherson's epic poem 'Fingal', which he claimed to have based on early Gaelic legends about Fionn mac Cumhail.

ds is an ayden! (spelt differently as you see!)

didn't know it meant 'little fire'.. too true!

sorrel · 27/05/2005 15:07

Janh · 27/05/2005 15:07

How about Wallace?

Miaou · 27/05/2005 15:07

dh has just seen my comment that he is too picky ....ooops

He is now bashing me round the head telling me to post that "I am not too picky, so there" !!!!!!!!

Another vote there for Cilian, Miaou

jangus · 27/05/2005 15:08

Rabbie??

Janh · 27/05/2005 15:11

Oh, no Scottish equivalent so no good, sorry.

This is new to me:

SACHAIRI
Gender: Masculine
Usage: Scottish
Scottish form of ZECHARIAH

Also related to Zachary. Different?

jangus · 27/05/2005 15:11

Wasn't it Rab C Nesbitt???? Anyone know what the C was... maybe it was a nice Scottish name, tee hee!

Janh · 27/05/2005 15:12

It goes well with Hugh too. I think 3 syllables is good with a single-syllable second name.

jangus · 27/05/2005 15:13

Jan... you obviously have given this naming lark a lot of thought!

Janh · 27/05/2005 15:13

Is Cameron still possible? Cameron Hugh sounds fine.

Janh · 27/05/2005 15:15

Yes and no, jangus - I love doing it for other people, but my kids only have one name each because we had enough probs deciding on one! (In fact I was quite keen on the idea of numbering them and letting them choose a name later.)

jangus · 27/05/2005 15:16

ohhhh i like that idea!!
