How often do you wash your kitchen floor?

I am trying very hard to be a better housewife (aaaaargh!) and seem to have improved on the regularity of doing laundry/vacuuming/proper cooking (not reheating ready meals!).

But what about floor sweeping/washing? That Housework Woman in the Saturday Telegraph says sweep the kitchen floor after every meal and wash it once a day. Seems like an awful lot of faff (sp?) to me or am I slovenly?

Get a dog then you will hardly ever have to sweep up after meals!

I do it when it looks dirty.

ThomCat · 13/05/2003 17:50

My DD throws all food onto the floor when she's unimpressed / bored with it so I sweep / wash that part all the bllody time becasue I have to, other than that i pay someone to wash it once a week for me!!

whymummy · 13/05/2003 17:53

every single day i hoover and mop it as i can`t stand dogs hairs on it,i dropped the margerine lid and it was covered in hairs, gets on me nerves!!

tallulah · 13/05/2003 18:01

Never!

DH vacuums it as and when required & washes it when he can be bothered. Not my job (don't know how to do the big smiley face)

Twink · 13/05/2003 18:04

When my socks start to stick to it

ninja · 13/05/2003 18:05

Once a week if we're lucky, might sweep it more often. I don't care if you think I'm slovenly (do cook regularly tho!)

tigerlilly · 13/05/2003 18:06

Talullah

So you never wash the kitchen floor and pinch mother and baby spaces. You are truly an anarchist and I'm going to look out for your other mails

ghengis · 13/05/2003 18:10

Just swept kitchen floor out of curiosity - disgusting! How did I not notice all that dirt? Bugger, now I'll have to wash it too!!!

ghengis, you must have been reading my mind, I was thinking this morning (looking at the general level of filth) of asking how often other people clean and how they learnt to keep house - only I never did really, don't have a routine, notice things that need doing upstairs in the morning but then forget as soon as I go downstairs - or vice versa - or forget the kitchen when I get stuck into House Doctor (!!!) or Baby Story on the telly - should I write things down and tick them off when I've done them?

(Of course my other problem is the internet. Perhaps I should send the PC away...)

I generally sweep twice a day - purely because after my 3 have had breakfast - it looks like a bombsite (1 spoonful into mouth and 2 for the floor ) and I can't stand it for the rest of the day.

I then sweep again in the evening after the little herberts have gone to bed.

It gets washed once a week - unless said herberts drop juice and make it sticky!

Ghengis - stop reading that paper - it's putting horrid thoughts in your head!
Change to a quality rag!

judetheobscure · 13/05/2003 19:54

so Tuesday is ....?... day.

The cleaner washes the floor once a week, otherwise it wouldn't get done. If something gets spilt I'll mop it. It gets swept a couple of times a week, and I'll use the dustpan and brush (or dh will) on the bad bits round the table.

Tinker · 13/05/2003 19:57

About a month after I realise it needs doing

XAusted · 13/05/2003 19:59

Sweep every day as we eat in the kitchen and also have door into garden from it. Kids and dog go in and out of door all day so bits everywhere. Mop once a week. Kids and dogs too scared to get muddy footprints on floor. DH not scared but I make him wipe his own footprints up. If things get spilled between mops, the dog can usually oblige. (To do a big grin, Tallulah, do a colon followed by capital O)

doormat · 13/05/2003 20:02

hoover downstairs twice a day.
Mop kitchen, hall and bathrooms daily.
Hoover upstairs 3-4 times a week.

Linzoid · 13/05/2003 20:39

Hoover and mop evry other day sometimes every day when 2 ds have been playing out and then there are always muddy footprints.
Hoover upstairs twice a week.
