help, we have sold our house subject to contract to a couple who arent in a chain and want a quick sale, we have placed an offer on ahouse which has been accepted and the vendor is building a housenext door which weare fine with, however,we have been over there a bout 3 times to see the houseand it was deadly quiet, the cul de sac is quite small and it seems quite peaceful, we asked about the neighbours ajoining the house and he just said, oh i think they will move soon, they have just split up, he pointed out that the mother had left and taken 10 year old with her but left father and 18 year old there. last night we decided to drive past the house as we were over there anyway and to our horror, the 18 year old was stood out side with about 3 really rough looking lads(he looked like a nasty peice of work too)with all the doors open on his car and the loudest music id ever heard coming out of it, really bassy, the car is a clapped out g reg escort but thr sound system is prob worth more than the car, dh wants to pull out of the sale now, advice please???

If I would you, I would be grateful that you went around when you did. Much better to pull out now when you can.

Spacecadet · 22/05/2005 15:08

you are all so right, we do not want to get stuck next door to the family from hell....sigh..finding a house to rent though not easy as all little villages and only place with houses to rent isEly where they are over a grand a month and its ouit of catchment for dd1 and ds1 school and the primary schools are full there cos itsbeen in the paper.

SC you can read my threads on my neighbours here They hang outside imtimidating us, they threaten my DH, the police filed it as a civil dispute and not threatening behaviour or assault... I would pull out of the sale now, and not go through what we are....

sparklymieow · 22/05/2005 15:39

this is when it all started

Spacecadet · 22/05/2005 15:39

oh god poor you sparkly, thats bloody awful, how did it all start?

OP posts:
Spacecadet · 22/05/2005 15:40

i could see the same thing happening at our prospective home tbh sparkly, i can imagine that if weasked them to stop playing loud music they would have ago and prob get the mates involved who i have found out have criminal records and are known trouble makers

OP posts:
sparklymieow · 22/05/2005 15:52

my neighbours are known offenders and are always having the police calling on them, yet they are still walking about!!!!!! also they can't fight one on one, its a gang of them...

Spacecadet · 22/05/2005 15:54

people like that usually do hang round in gangs, its not fair is it, why should you suffer when you have done nothing wrong?

OP posts:
sparklymieow · 22/05/2005 16:01

exactly, but you are lucky that you went round and saw it all before you signed everything, pull out now, wouldn't want to be giving you advice in a few months, its life destroying and makes you feel so drained, and no-one that could help (council, police etcetc) seems to want to help. I want my neighbours to crash their car, with their sound system, and die..... I would feel nothing for them if it happened, someone did say to me when we first moved in that we had the worse family in the street next door, because the oldest two were in prison we didn't think much of it TBH, and someone else also said that they wouldn't be allowed back in the street so we thought it would all be fine, but I guess because the old boy they scared half to death had died, they were allowed back...... [angy]

Did you check the link someone put on another thread to see what prices the other houses sold for in the area? Sounds like you're stuck with the nightmare of choosing between more space or a better area for the same price. A sparkly has witnessed nightmare neighbours can totally ruin your life so I really hope you find somewhere nice

here's the link

FIMAC1 · 22/05/2005 17:17

like others have mentioned, try and discreetly speak to one or two of the other neighbours in the street. We were dubious about a neighbour in a terrace house we wanted - went to the house on the other side and asked about the neigbour (as it had a sofa in the front garden, back garden was like a jungle with the back door totally rotten and falling off) turned out it was an old guy who's wife had died and he couldn't cope (not a hippy commmune like we were worried about!) I would from experience not ask the vendor who will tell you ANYTHING to sell but a couple of the neighbours at least - one of them will tell you the truth which is what you need to know at present.

It will be an expensive mistake if you make it one and will be difficult to sell on if the neighbours are the prob

Good luck

sparkly so so sorry, you must be going through hell.

P.S I would not personally touch this property with the proverbial barge-pole!

Sounds like the family should be featured in the prog 'Neighbours from Hell', or maybe they already have....

Spacecadet · 22/05/2005 17:29

QE thats you after a few more sessionsdown the gym, you too will be able to lift your leg up like that(much to your dh;s delight) unless you can already!!!!

FIMAC1 the 18 year old looks like michael carroll, the one that won the lottery who had a criminal record.

LGJ · 22/05/2005 17:46

Spacecadet · 22/05/2005 18:03

Lonelymum · 22/05/2005 18:11

If the house had rising damp or needed a new roof, you could negotiate a drop in the price and put it right, but there is nothing you can do about anti social neighbours SC.

You know it makes sense...

Spacecadet · 22/05/2005 18:12

i know

OP posts:
LGJ · 22/05/2005 18:15

Glad to hear it, sorry to be so bossy but it is a huge amount of money to risk..............

Spacecadet · 22/05/2005 18:19
