Can I suggest

if you are unfulfilled being a SAHM, get a job (then see how unfulfilled you truly feel )

if you are unfulfilled working, try and find time for a hobby or sport or try to go part-time, stop working

if all else fails buy a rabbit

.. there, that's sorted

mummycan · 20/05/2005 10:45

What kind of rabbit? A real live one or a battery operated one?

Gwenick · 20/05/2005 10:45

mummycan

mummycan · 20/05/2005 10:47

There's more than one kind of fulfilment!

Lonelymum · 20/05/2005 10:50

If only it were that easy Mud. I can't get a job because I feel I have an obligation to ds3 who is still at home. I was home for the others and want to give ds3 what I gave them. Also, in a new area. Not sure how to find a suitable childminder. Not sure I can afford a childminder. Lastly, and perhaps most importantly, I lack the confidence to get a job. Sort that out for me please.

compo · 20/05/2005 10:53

I think only you can sort that one out LM!! If you really really want a job you will research childminders etc. Perhpas couselling would help with lack of confidence?

dropinthe · 20/05/2005 10:58

I'm a SAHM in the day and I work at night and weekends-great for my sons but not for my relationship-I would choose to work a couple of days in the week if I could afford childminder/nursery so as to have a sane balance for all of us but as the kids come first then Mummy and daddy are second for the time being!
I agree with the hobby bit but you are presuming that person 1;
A. Has the energy to do so
B. Has the time to do after working loads of hours, fitting in housework, childrearing etc
C.Has money.

And talking of money, you are presuming that people who are unfulfilled at work CAN afford to go part time or to stop altogether.

What planet are you on Mud?

Lonelymum · 20/05/2005 11:00

No, if I want to go back to my old job, I am coming round to the idea that I shall have to avail myself of the retraining ops (much as it sticks in my throat to admit I need to retrain - me! who was so competent at her work!) Perhaps the issue is getting the confidence to go for something new. Another Mner pointed me in a good direction the other day and I might pursue that but it would be unpaid initially so there would be no money for a childminder so I would have to wait two years for ds3 to go to school.

What I really want Mud to understnad is that it isn't simply a case of changing to what you want. There are limitations, restrictions, other considerations....

morningpaper · 20/05/2005 11:01

Mud: I assume that as I'm starting the threads, then this is directed at me.

I'm just interested in other women's experience other motherhood, and why they make different choices to myself.

I'm sorry if any of my questions make you (other other posters) feel uncomfortable - I really don't understand why that is.

Donbean · 20/05/2005 11:05

Yes i agree,(MP) a bit harsh that posting mud.

Mud · 20/05/2005 11:06

it was a joke

could you not tell by the rabbit comment

have some people had their SOH surgically removed???

OP posts:
Donbean · 20/05/2005 11:09

I thought it must have been a joke, wasnt sure because of the postings that followed.
Sorry hun..

Donbean · 20/05/2005 11:09

Apart from the rabbit and batteries one...hmmmmm

Gwenick · 20/05/2005 11:09

rabbits anyone?

dropinthe · 20/05/2005 11:10

Ha,bloody,Ha! Am too tired to appreciate subtle humour-try "Why did the rabbit cross the road..." next time! It may raise a titter!!!

Donbean · 20/05/2005 11:11

OH MY F***G GOD!!!!
I must live a sheltered life, have you seen the variety of THEM.....

Lonelymum · 20/05/2005 11:11

It was a bit difficult to tell Mud. The rabbit bit might have been a bit of facetiousness but the rest sounded patronising. Just goes to show you can't read tones in people's words.

Donbean · 20/05/2005 11:11

Just have to have one more look.....

Gwenick · 20/05/2005 11:12

oh and before anyone asks how I found that website.......I googled it 5 minutes ago

Lonelymum · 20/05/2005 11:13

Getting ready for the weekend Gwenick?

Donbean · 20/05/2005 11:13

It is always so difficult to get some thing across on here, im always worried that people wont get mu humour or if they are feeling fed up, will take it the wrong way.
