HELP! Ideas on what to buy an 83 yr old Grandma?????

Newbarnsleygirl · 16/05/2005 13:47

Not Chocolates as she's not a fan, not flowers as she gets loads, not smellys as she was complaining the other day that she'd got loads and not plants because she's had part of her garden taken up and had to take on a gardener because she can't manage it.

So any ideas would be greatly appreciated

How about making a photo album/one of those multiple frames of all her grandchildren and any greats?
My Grannie is 89 next week and I know she'd love this.

If she's got a microwave you could get those heat up microwave slippers or the hot pads for aches and pains....usually scented in lavendar or similar.
Sorry...not very original.

Newbarnsleygirl · 16/05/2005 13:51

We did a photo thing for xmas and she's got the lavendar scented heat pads.

I have a feeling this is not going to be easy but thank you for the ideas.

A year's subscription to Yours magazine. It's targetted at older ladies and is a good read (for them - I'm only 37!).

Got this for my mum's birthday (she is 72)

almostanangel · 16/05/2005 13:55

lol...how about music cds etc? mybe her fav record on record but on cd

dyzzidi · 16/05/2005 13:55

A facial or a pedicure or something along those lines.

All ladies need pampering every now and then regardless of age.

almostanangel · 16/05/2005 13:56

thats a great mag im 37 too..

koalabear · 16/05/2005 13:57

voucher to a floating tank (you know, the sort where you get to relax to music in a cocoon) - heard its fabulous for achy joints and stressed out minds alike (I bought one for MIL, cost £49 through Red letter Days)

Newbarnsleygirl · 16/05/2005 13:57

I don't think she'd like the pampering thing.

She hates going to hairdressers because "theres always people talking about who's died, whos had a heart attack and whos got cancer" so that could be along the same lines but thanks.

she cant talk to anyone in a float tank..lol

Newbarnsleygirl · 16/05/2005 13:58

The mag might be a good idea.

I want to get a list and then I'll run it by MIL.

Does she go to the cinema - cinema vouchers are good.

almostanangel · 16/05/2005 14:00

what ever you get dont let her find out the price!! my mum is 84 and freaks out at the price of everything lol

almostanangel · 16/05/2005 14:01

84+cinema=zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz lol

Lonelymum · 16/05/2005 14:01

She sounds lovely NBG. Are you near her? Couldn't you take her out to a nice National Trust garden or similar and give her a cream tea? Your time and an ear to listen to her will be worth far more to her than anything you can buy.

Newbarnsleygirl · 16/05/2005 14:11

She would love that LM but it's just my luck that my birthday is on the same day and I'm going on a night out, the night before in my home town and stopping over. Dh is then joining me the next day but is going to see his Grandma before he comes to me so there would be no time for that.

Good idea though otherwise.

OP posts:
koalabear · 16/05/2005 14:16

NBG - if you like cream tea idea, why not make up a nice "voucher" for one with you on a day of her choosing, and pop it in the card - then she can arrange with you a date to go, and also, look forward to it

my nanna used to say the anticipation was 90% of the enjoyment

Newbarnsleygirl · 16/05/2005 14:19

Thats not a bad idea KB. Might do that as dh is working loads atm so we could plan a better day.

Could do with a little something though to open iykwim.

I know it's going against what I've said but as a back up do florists deliver on Sundays?
