Not Chocolates as she's not a fan, not flowers as she gets loads, not smellys as she was complaining the other day that she'd got loads and not plants because she's had part of her garden taken up and had to take on a gardener because she can't manage it.

So any ideas would be greatly appreciated

When my nan was in her 80's,she was partially disabled by a stroke, but still had a fantastic sense of humour. She also said she didn't want any birthday presents as there was nothing she wanted.

So I bought her the tackiest red lace thong I could find for her birthday. Her face was an absolute picture & she laughed until she cried, then insisted on ringing all thr relations to tell them (grin)

Books - or if she finds reading too difficult, audio books?

I have an 82 year-old mother and an 88-year old aunt. Both like reading, so I often get them books, but the BBC Shop (presumably also available online) has a wonderful stock of DVDs and videos of old series, history programmes, dramas etc and I have bought them quite a few of these. Both ladies also like getting pretty china. I bought my aunt a little china pill-box at Christmas time and she uses it every day (taking pills comes with the territory when you are 88).

Theatre ticket? We took my Great Uncle to see Riverdance for his 80th ( a while ago) & he loved it. Do you have a good local theatre?
