HappyDaddy · 09/05/2005 09:19

Rochester in Kent, around £150 - £170,000. Very good schools.

bobbybob · 09/05/2005 09:21

You can buy a brand new 4 bedroom house, double car garaging, underfloor heating near good schools for that in Christchurch NZ. Bet you didn't want to go that far south though!

Fio2 · 09/05/2005 09:22

agree with golds with Stafford, plus it is tipped to still rise in price this year

some parts of staffordhsire, shropshire, notts and derbys aswell and margate lol

Fio2 · 09/05/2005 09:23

also some parts of the west midlands and some grotty places in north kent

HappyDaddy · 09/05/2005 09:41

That all depends on your definition of grotty, Fio2.

Fio2 · 09/05/2005 09:45

Erith for instance, no offence to anyone who lives there

piffle · 09/05/2005 09:48

sleaford hercules
the schools here are brilliant, nice semi rural area, we love it
It's south lincs. Close enough to commute to Lincoln, Nottingham or Peterborough/Grantham link to London too.... We moved from Hants and love it here.
You can even got 4 bed new build for £160k

HappyDaddy · 09/05/2005 09:50

I agree about Erith LOL

piffle · 09/05/2005 09:55

go to www.upmystreet.co.uk and search schools and facilities there. We are in the NG34 postcode FYI
The good thing here is that the boys and girls each have a grammar school and they are very high attaining and excellent schools, the mixed secondary school ST Georges is a technology specialist college and is also excellent, you're in a win win here tbh if you use your selection sensibly.
there are 4-5 top notch primary schools, although they can be quite full depending on years, but due to the expansion of the area, you always get in on appeal, or like us we chose the catholic school and it is astoundingly good.Happy to further extoll the virtues of here if needed
I've lived in NZ too so can be objective I'd still rather be here...

Fio2 · 09/05/2005 09:59

some parts of Cambs too, Fenlands and Ely type places. Some parts of Leicester and Leics in general

Hermione1 · 09/05/2005 10:04

I got our house for £60.000 for a four bedroomed, but is in a shitty area though. sigh, and needs so much work doing to it.

megandsoph · 09/05/2005 10:07

tis the same here hermione u can get a lovely looking house where there isn't alot that needs doing but it's always in a awful area with a burnt out car on the next street almost every night

Springchicken · 09/05/2005 10:14

You could probably get something here in Luton but it would more than likely be soemthing that needs work.

Although, we moved into our house in January which cost us £184995, huge 3 bed with massive garden, i cul-de-sac, extended kitchen and downstairs showroom. Immaculate condition.
Just need to keep your fingers crossed

Any area's you would prefer or definitely don't want?
My BIL lives in Christchurch and has recently brough a 3 bed house for £140000, although i haven't seen it yet!

feelingold · 09/05/2005 10:27

Piffle - didn't realise you were so close to me, I live in Grantham. There are some lovely areas around here and Sleaford and some good schools too, I have lived here all my life and have often thought about moving to a different area but to be honest I think we have it quite good round here.

Caligula · 09/05/2005 10:29

North Kent, in and around Medway. Some grotty areas but some nice little villages.

piffle · 10/05/2005 09:23

Feelingold - I go to Grantham a lot and do really like ot there too, we just had to be that little bit closer to Linciln for DH's work.
I think Grantham will boom in the next ten yrs due to the improvement in the rail links to London - be good investement I reckon
we could get together for a coffee if you wanted?
We are really loving it in Sleaford too, we like the area a lot and ds has settled in really well.

feelingold · 10/05/2005 09:43

A few years ago Grantham started to get a bit grim, but with lots more shops and facilities coming to the area it is improving tremendously, and to be honest its not a bad place to live.
Sleaford, Lincoln and Newark are quite nice as well.
Love to meet up for coffee if you are ever at a loose end and in need of some adult conversation.
(know Sleaford quite well, have family there).
