Does anyone have a suggestion for a good disposable nappy? I have tried a couple, but with the baby starting more solids, I need one that will contain well.

I like Tescos own brand. They fit well, have had no disasters with them, they've got a nice feel to them, good elasticated waistband and legs, strong tabs and are a good price. The ones we are currently using cost £7.99 for 54.

Ems · 23/05/2001 12:39

Fionas, I think its hard to recommend nappies, because sometimes the nappies dont match the baby, if you see what I mean! My first leaked every time with Huggies and was a pampers babe, and now with baby 2 we have it the other way. I really like the Huggies, but other mums on the board have found them leaky. Trial and error like you are doing at the moment I think. (remember test out supermarket own brands for free in their changing rooms!)

Emmy · 23/05/2001 21:23

Dont want to be obsessed or anything, but you do get less leakage with cloth...........(sorry I had to do it!)

Chelle · 24/05/2001 02:57

Really Emmy? I found it the other way around and gave on the cloth nappies after 4 months! We use Huggies at night time and a cheaper brand (which you probably don't have in the UK as they have little pictures of kangaroos, koalas and platypus on them!) during the day

Dimples · 24/05/2001 07:46

I have to agree with Ems I'm afraid. Theres nothing like a well-fitted cloth nappy to contain baby poo! The only time I've ever had to change DD's clothes is after wearing disposables and it all shoots out the leg!

Nmd · 24/05/2001 07:46

I'm using a mix of Nature Boy/Girl & Sainsbury's at present (new Huggies didn't work out for us, and unlike DD1, DD2 isn't Pampers shape) I've just bought a pack of Tushies diposables, but they seem scarily baggy at the legs - I've had a liquid discovery that I couldn't decide between wee/water/dribble. Does anyone else have experience of Tushies disposables? Is it the only gel-free disposable?

Marina · 24/05/2001 09:54

We find Nature Boy and Girl good (although the lack of distinctive pattern on the front waistband has already led to clueless and shortsighted granny putting a nappy on back to front). We gave up on the new Huggies which was a shame as our son had been in old Huggies from birth with great success.

We have been using Sainsburys own disposables lately, they seem to be much like a Pampers to me. We loved the old Huggies but had five leaks in a week with the new ones.

I have just discovered that a Sainsburys maxi plus nappy is excactly the same size as the maxi but you get two less per pack, or did I just get a dud pack!

Bloss,

what are cloth nappies in the UK like?

I do get some leaks during the day Bloss, but then I'm using Imse vimses, so I think I'm trading absorbancy for slimness, - I'm a bit of clothesaholic for the children and don't like the big bum look. Definitely none at night with my softy and Airrika, though, I wouldn't go back to disposables if you paid me now, to be honest- just love the nappies drying on the line.
On the disposable front though - the tescos nappies maxi and maxi plus are the same size too, bit of a rip off eh! But Tescos nappies are pretty good, and thats what I get if I'm going away or anything...........

Not another Totsbots fan eh?! Are they really as good as everyone says on UK parents?

Maybe I should get some then........

Penguinsmum · 25/05/2001 13:53

Yes, TotsBots are fantastic - we've just gone cloth this week and love them, love them, love them! Baby keeps patting them, so I think she likes them too!

never thought I'd get so excited about a nappy....

Nmd · 25/05/2001 19:01

ok, if I take the plunge and go cloth, sounds like totsbots are a good bet, what would I need to buy? My daughter's a big 16 months, so assuming she's the same as her sister in nappies for at least another 10 months. Having seen the website I don't really have a good feel for which bits you need and how many of each. And do these things tumble once we get back to rain?

Im going to move to cloth nappies when we get back from holiday in a couple of weeks, I havnt heard of Totsbots, do they have a web site? What type of nappie are they and where can I look at some or buy them???

Fionas · 26/05/2001 08:35

We did try the new Huggies, but found the leg bands came apart. Did anyone else have this problem?

Second all that Bloss! And there is something really satisfying about the sight of cloth nappies blowing on the line, don't know why. Got my Imses from Twinkle Twinkle and the service was amazingly good, and helpful. I actually used to use Kooshies before I had a computer and found the alternatives, they are ok but really don't stand up against the others now. Really must get some totsbots, although tempted by the new organic Imse vimses.....now where did I put my credit card........

Joe · 26/05/2001 17:37

Thanks Bloss I will be looking at those sites later. My mum did buy me a load of terries because it has always been my intention to use cloth (I also love to see them out on the line) just seems nicer and more baby somehow. I am looking forward to giving up the disposables. So glad I found this site, so much good advice.

Nmd · 26/05/2001 18:07

Thanks very much for the clear explanation & advice Bloss - have just consigned my £155 to Twinkle Twinkle and am absolutely dying to get my delivery on Wednesday!!
