I once had one of those and I found the most effective cleaner was that old fashioned Ajax scouring powder - it doesn't scratch the glass and it cleans really effectively. Very difficult to get hold of though, I can't find it anywhere and I have an enamel bath so really want it. (Much the best stuff for enamel - cheapest as well.)

If you find it, tell me where!

Vinegar is supposed to work as well, though I never saw any evidence.

Viakel - I am in a very hard water area so get water stains all the time. Viakel limescale remove is great.

lima · 05/05/2005 12:56

have you tried a limescale remover like Viakel?

that's what I use

lima · 05/05/2005 12:57

SG - snap

SaintGeorge · 05/05/2005 12:57

Caligula - Sainsburys do Ajax scouring powder (75p)

Caligula · 05/05/2005 13:18

Ooh, thank you - it never occurred to me that such an upmarket place would do it.

babster · 05/05/2005 13:19

Cillit Bang! Stupid name but it blitzed the limescale on my shower door - even dh noticed the cloudiness had gone.

AuntyQuated · 05/05/2005 13:22

as well as the doors ...what about the grooves they sit in. i d them with a toothbrush, but there must be a better way

logic · 05/05/2005 13:26

Jif lemon juice works quite well too...

pootlepod · 05/05/2005 13:35

Prevention of marks is the best- get a small window squegee thingy and use it after each shower, it really does save having to clean it so often.

Furball · 05/05/2005 14:10

I smear 'lime-lite' all over with a sponge then leave for 10 minutes and rinse off.

lima · 05/05/2005 14:11

pootlepod - if only I could train dha nd the 2 x ds's

Hi,

There was some discussion of this in a kitchen thread a while back here . If you look under my name I suggested a spray which helps repel dirt / water... this would also help keep the glass cleaner for longer.

Installation of a water softening thingy for the house is an (expensive) alternative option.

PLEASE HELP! I have tried all the above, plus Harpic Limescale Remover, Kilrock and Oust Liquid kettle descaler, each left overnight, but none will touch the water marks left in my glass Bud Vases. They are about half and inch wide at the top, tapering down for six inches to a quarter at the base, so you can't reach inside with a squeegee and a bottle brush does not help at all. Any suggestions?

notasheep · 16/06/2008 00:23

we need ANTHEA

Swedes · 16/06/2008 00:25

I use half a lemon from time to time. Cut it in half take both halves in the shower with me. Squidge one half of the lemon on the inside of the shower door and rinse off with hand shower. Wash hair, squeeze other half a lemon over hair as I've heard it makes your hair more blonde. Rinse with freezing cold water. Dry hair. Still brunette.

spudcounter · 19/06/2008 20:52

where do i get thay small sqigie from

maidamess · 19/06/2008 21:00

The only, and I mean ONLY thing that works and keeps the water marks off is METHOD shower cleaner.

Its natural, but soo effective. I live in a very hard water area, and give the door a quick squiz everytime I have a shower, while I'm still in there.

Spray leave, and never have to scrub it.

if it doesn't work for you I'll eat my new pewter wedges.

Toothyboy · 19/06/2008 21:04

WD40 apparently!

hk78 · 19/06/2008 23:07

i think its meant to be
white vinegar and bicarb together in a paste
