The Health Care Professionals' Lounge: if you've had a bad day, are sick of your job and need to vent, the lounge is open!

On another thread, a few of us who work as health care providers (of any sort) were talking about having days at work that make a career as a waitress or grocery cashier sound very appealing... so, patterned on the One-Child Tea Room (which, btw, is open to anyone regardless of how many children you may have), here is The Health Care Professionals' Lounge.

Being something of a Room of Requirement, The Lounge has squashy sofas, a bar stocked with booze of all kinds, an Aga for tea, coffee or hot choc, and a pantry/ fridge for nibblies or full meals. Calories don't count here, neither does trans-fat, or food allergies, and there are no hangovers the next day.

Come on in and relax. There is only one rule here: no fisticuffs. We are here to vent and talk about the assorted difficulties of our jobs. If you're a patient, please remember that we give large amounts of our time and of ourselves to health care, and work within the limitations and the frustrations of the health care system (wherever we may live). Our jobs are rewarding but also exhausting, and we frequently question not only the system but also ourselves. If you've received bad care, please speak to the person responsible, or start another thread - this is not the place for it. We're here with our hair down (or up in curlers, or slathered in a masque) and our feet up. If necessary, we will borrow Mellors from the Tea Room to have trouble-makers firmly and politely ejected.

Cheers!

Can I have some cake - I'm an NHS manager as well - but a nice one - honest!

good day at work today but last week was rather challenging. Some bad things (and good things happening to patients) and then off you go home to your family who you devoutly hope will never need to know anything of the myriad horrible things that can go wrong with the human body...ho hum - is that a macaroon marooned on that plate? I'll find it a home...

Lovely, the lounge is filling up!

And at "wringing of neck". That wouldn't normally be my first choice of procedure for constipated babes but it works .

So, we have bumps, babes, and toddlers in here!

stanausauruswrecks · 05/05/2009 20:00

Jacksmama · 05/05/2009 20:01

Of course you can! Have some wine, remember, it won't affect you in RL.

On call for what?

Gaviscon Advance?? Noooooo, remins me of being pregnant

Jacksmama · 05/05/2009 20:05

Welcome!!!
I'd get up and pour you a but Jackbaby has just latched on and promptly fallen asleep. So I'm afraid I'm stuck on the squashy couch.

I think we need a waiter. I'm picturing a cross between Wesley Snipes and Daniel Craig - preferably in a Chippendale's type get-up.

Just got my first band 5 post. Will watch this thread with great interest (and an open mind)!!

treedelivery · 05/05/2009 20:08

ooo a waiter.

Clive Owen, he would be quitely polite whilst looking a bit naughty.

My baby cries all the time, can the waiter wear a moby sling?

AnyFucker · 05/05/2009 20:08

Can I pass on the speciality Jacksmama, as it may out me

StripeyKnickersSpottySocks · 05/05/2009 20:11

Hello fellow HP's. I'm having a bad week this week. I normally only work 3 days a week but doe to car service, mot and tax being due I'm working 5 shifts. Am close to collapse already, dunno how some people manage it every week!

StripeyKnickersSpottySocks · 05/05/2009 20:12

Oh and tomorrow I'm working in the antenatal assessment centre for the first time in months and I'm dreading it. Stupid middle shift as well and I thought I was on a late which would have been much better.

treedelivery · 05/05/2009 20:14

My sympathies stripeyk. I've assessement centre work - interesting stuff though challenging and bit scary at times.

What you dreading?

StripeyKnickersSpottySocks · 05/05/2009 20:19

Mainly the stress and the being so overworked. Plus the abuse from the clients. Its not unheard of for people to have a 4 or 5 hour wait to be seen by a m/w. Then another long wait to be seen by a Dr as the SHO will also be on call for Obs, doing sections, etc. Plus a lot of the current SHOs seem clueless.

IwishIwasmoreorganised · 05/05/2009 20:20

Evening all!

I'm a physio too but on matenity leave for a few more months after having ds2.

Have to admit to not really looking forward to it much.

Jacksmama · 05/05/2009 20:24

AF, of course. Didn't mean to be nosey.

Tiredemma, what is a band 5 post? [ignorant foreigner emoticon]
