When you got married, what was your something BORROWED?

My sister is getting married in two weeks' time and needs something borrowed. She has got all the stuff she needs for her wedding now, has the garter which would sometimes be something borrowed. I think I had a pretty handkerchief or something which someone gave me on my wedding day. We just can't think of anything for her.
What did you BORROW for your special day?

Jewellery. Traditionally a bride doesn't own anything nice enough to get married in!!

a blue butterfly brooch from my sister

I wore my mum's engagement ring on my right hand, and she wore my engagement ring during the ceremony.

A little bracelet from my mum. I've only just realised (this was nearly 5 years ago) that it was one of the first presents I bought her on my own when I was young IYSWIM. I thought she'd brought that one because it was silver and she mainly wears gold, but there are other ones she could have chosen. Aah, that's sweet, I don't know why I never thought before [dippy emoticon]

Earrings from MIL and bracelet from my Mum.

GentleOtter · 29/04/2009 10:24

A handkerchief. I was told that the luck began once you returned the borrowed item.

MerlinsBeard · 29/04/2009 10:24

My sister had 2 pairs of the same earrings but one set was bigger than the other. I borrowed the bigger set and she wore the smaller-looked FAB

My Great Grandma's ring.

notsoteenagemum · 29/04/2009 10:34

My Grandma's engagement ring, she couldn't come to the Wedding and died a few weeks later so it was really special for me to have something of hers.

Her giant rocks put mine to shame though

meltedmarsbars · 29/04/2009 10:37

Princessmel - I hope your boss was female!

This might be more helpful.
My friend got me to buy some nice knickers then 'borrowed' them (unworn obv).

I never got them back though

Just before we went in to see the registrar for our interview, my friend discovered I hadn't bothered with the whole old new borrowed blue thing. She was horrified, so slipped a tiny blue beaded bracelet of hers on to my wrist and said it was old, borrowed & blue!

FrankMustard · 29/04/2009 10:45

a blue handkerchief from my friend - ticked off the comething blue too.

LadyGlencoraPalliser · 29/04/2009 10:46

My mother lent me a ring. And demanded it back as we were standing in the receiving line immediately after the ceremony.

BrendaAndEddie · 29/04/2009 10:47

oh god you DID THIS?

MrsTittleMouse · 29/04/2009 10:47

Did you know that traditionally you would borrow something from a happily married woman and her luck would rub off onto you? I borrowed a necklace from a happily married friend - she had better not get divorced!
