Apart from pat self on back?

I am thinking of retraining but no idea about jobs. Those are the things I'm considering studying - what REAL ACTUAL JOBS might I get with a postgrad MA/PHD in them?

I mean ones that pay money. Any money. But must be money.

Thanks dearies.

No, not too awful really. Just very sad that someone so young (he was 63) and full of energy and life has gone. Both my nieces read out tributes to their dad - which really set me off!

And I lost it a bit at the wake later, after lots of white wine when reading the book of memories.

But all in all, he had a good send off.

Nieces both flew back from Oz to be here, so it was lovely to see them, if only briefly. They fly back this evening.

Whoops, sorry onebat, that was a bit of a hijack of your thread!

Oh biwi, that's v sad. My mother died at 60. It's bloody young to die in your 60s, I think, these days.

I hope,btw, not my thread but ....

A Thread For the World!

Apols for absence I've been ill with lurgy

BecauseImWorthIt · 26/04/2009 23:00

Yes, my mum was only 66 when she died .

Sorry you've got the lurgy. Not swine flu I hope?

ruty · 26/04/2009 23:02

Hope you're ok BIWI.

I'm ill too. Really ill. It sucks.

ruty · 26/04/2009 23:03

I think I might have swine flu but my own piglets are fine so maybe not.
[My mum died in her 70s but was ill from 60 onwards, horrible]

onebatmother · 26/04/2009 23:03

that;s a medical term.

WILF! Don't change your name! It's my favourite name in the MN firmament.

onebatmother · 26/04/2009 23:07

Have to go and do some bloody work.

OP posts:
ruty · 26/04/2009 23:09

now onebat? Go to bed! We're ill!

BecauseImWorthIt · 26/04/2009 23:11

I have a horrible week next week, working very hard, in close proximity to 4 American clients who are very demanding.

And I'm sure they are all going to bring swine flu with them.

I'm wondering if I can get away with refusing to shake their hands.

DH has suggested that I wear a mask.

onebatmother · 26/04/2009 23:14

Next week will be hell if I don't try and catch up a bit. Lots of fannying about career research last week put me a little behind.

Lenin, yes, there is a Wanker's Corner for general wanky chat

I got some books from Amazon yesterday - smartarse ones. Quite excited. Not sure when I'm going to read them though, and they've all got porn and/or sex in the title so dp has hidden them from dc's (with rather a po-face, which made me laugh).

Night-o everyone.

Fennel · 27/04/2009 11:32

Threadworm: "And what do you mean by discursive practices fennel? Is is something like 'the way people interact linguistically online'?"

Yes, that's about it. With a particular theoretical slant to it (discourse analysts are pretty rude about phenomenology, incidentally, you don't want to confuse the two). So not really the same area as your literacy practices, but there's some overlap.

I've managed to out myself on mumsnet anyway so am not too worried about anonymity, but I don't post much personal stuff here, if I did I'd have to have another name.

Lenin, this is the only Wankers Corner we had. Officially it was just a request for such a topic, but inexplicably MNHQ never gave us a Wankers Corner so we had to stick to the request thread.

Is dormant I'm afraid, and we have no permanent home. We are wandering wankers. When this thread fills we will have to pick up our ragged bundles and wank elsewhere.

Threadworm · 27/04/2009 11:51

Fennel just seen your post. Thanks. I didn't equate phenom. with discourse analysis btw. It was onebat who brought it into the thread. I know nothing about phenomenology as a school of thought Brentano, Heidigger, etc (rather than as an area of philosophy) whatsoever. (Prob bcs of the whole Dead-White-Austro-Anglo-American thing.)

You wouldn't be out of your depth lenin. It was only by utterly debasing ourselves that we became so fully submerged in those shallows.

Fennel · 27/04/2009 12:18

Sorry Threadworm, am just reading the posts rather quickly, I didn't mean to suggest you were getting your analytic schools of thought confused
