Hi, I'm looking for a sun block that is o.k for very sensitive skin.
My daughter always had spots on her cheeks and rashes, I recently started using all natural products on her such as little sprout, and peter rabbit naturally better. Her skin has really cleared up.
I'm more aware about chemicals in products now and try to avoid them where possible.
She needs a factor 30 at least, as she has very fair skin.
Usually every summer her skin gets really bad because of the sun block. I always used nivia childrens factor 50.
Now her skin is looking so good, I don't want to aggrivate it with sun block this year. So if you know of anything, please let me know. Thanks.

Try P20, this is the only one I can put on ds as all the others (that look like cream) bring him out in hives. You can get this from wilco's.

mummyloveslucy · 06/04/2009 20:12

Is it only factor 20 though or does it go higher? The one I saw was factor 20.

this?? although its only spf 25

FluffyBunnyGoneBad · 06/04/2009 20:19

I think it comes in another stregnth.

I have very sensitive skin and I find nivea products the worst. I have an allergic reaction to the sun and most suncreams make the rash worse but I have bought various suncreams for myself and DD who has eczema, without harsh chemicals that have been ok. I'll try and link.

gingerninja · 06/04/2009 20:38

I've used the Caribbean blue

and Lavera suncream, from this website

mummyloveslucy · 06/04/2009 21:13

That's interesting as I always thought Nivea were supposed to be good. Even the nivea baby irritates her skin.

That green people one is very good on my bad eczema.

Don't worry about it only being 25, it creates a visible "white" block on your skin and is way more effective than my factor 50.

Otherwise Avene sun protection works for me -don't know if you can get it in the uk?

HaventSleptForAYear · 06/04/2009 21:17

Nivea stuff kills my skin.

gingerninja · 06/04/2009 21:18

I find it very heavily perfumed. Really don't like Nivea stuff but everyone is different and it's a bit of trial and error when it comes to sensitive skin and cosmetics.

We use Lavera, it comes in a range of strengths.

BananaFruitBunny · 06/04/2009 21:19

Johnson's is the best one for my DS who has eczema.

And I normally hate Johnson's stuff!

DS has eczema and reacts badly to lots of sunscreens. Last year we used SunSense toddler roll-on and it worked really well.

The year before last we used Aveeno sunscreen, which was fine but then brought him up in terrible facial eczema last year, which was a bit odd. The year before that we used Bergaderm, which is good but extremely painful if it gets into the eyes.

charlieandlola · 06/04/2009 21:21

bergaderm seems to be ok.

poshtottie · 06/04/2009 21:25

ds had excema last year and somebody recommended sunsense factor 50 which is australian. You can get it in boots but have to ask for it as it isn't on the shelves.

HaventSleptForAYear · 06/04/2009 21:29

My mum's dermatologist told her to look for a "physical" ie mineral sunscreen rather than a chemical one, which you ultimately become sensitive to, even if you are fine with it to start off with.

HaventSleptForAYear · 06/04/2009 21:29

She has the Roc ones.

poshtottie · 06/04/2009 21:48

Dr. Hauchka also do a children's suncream for sensitive skin.

ThingOne · 06/04/2009 21:49

We use green people sun cream along with hats and long sleeved shirts when it is very sunny. I am red haired with very fair skin so they are used to me covering up when it gets too sunny.

Hther · 10/04/2009 20:22

i have used green people in past was looking for something more natural this time, i think theyre all going to have titanim dioxide or something similar inm but green people have phenyoxyethanol in too. there is also lavera without phenyoxyethanol but has other chemaicals in too and i'm not sure which is better, also cant remember name but found another the other day, actually i think its called aubrey organics, no phenyoxyethanol, not even titanium dioxide but has PABA

DLI · 10/04/2009 20:34

uvistat is good. my GP gave me a prescription for my son who has eczema so i didnt have to pay!

theDreadPirateRabbits · 10/04/2009 20:38

Hther - the titanium dioxide is the mineral in mineral sunscreams - AFAIK it's a physical barrier which won't react with the skin the way that chemical screens do. HTH

Hther · 10/04/2009 20:42

yes it never seemed to cause problems its just means not completely natural

theDreadPirateRabbits · 10/04/2009 20:52

Hther - it's completely natural, according to Wiki:

"Titanium dioxide, also known as titanium(IV) oxide or titania, is the naturally occurring oxide of titanium, chemical formula TiO2. When used as a pigment, it is called titanium white, Pigment White 6, or CI 77891. It is noteworthy for its wide range of applications, from paint to sunscreen to food colouring when it is given the E number E171."

So fret ye not

theDreadPirateRabbits · 10/04/2009 20:54

Ooh, and having googled PABA, I'll be sticking with the titanium
