Mumsnet survey: How old are your children?

Go on, indulge a theory of mine for a moment. Would you mind just writing down the ages of your children please?

Mine are 8, 7, 5, and 2.

Thanks. I'll let you know my theory if I get enough responses.

Ok I'll put you out of your misery. It isn't very exciting. Just wanted to know if I was right in thinking that the average age of our children was lower than my children's average age (5.5) but it isn't. I think, with JT, JanH and Suedonim's grown up children in there (or even without them, which is why I think my Maths might be wrong somewhere!!!) the average age of responding Mner's children is about 6.5.

so why is there so much conversation given over to nappies, feeding, potty training etc? Do mums of older children not feel the need to discuss older kids' issues?

12, 6 and 4

Hermione1 · 21/04/2005 13:06

dd,6 ds 5.

JanH · 21/04/2005 13:07

I think the nappies/bottles/potties thing is because babies can't talk so you have to do a lot of speculation!

Lonelymum · 21/04/2005 13:07

BTW, I don't mean that as a criticism, just wondered why older kids' issues don't get aired as much as baby issues.

PMSL LM All that math. Let me add a few more figures for you then

12.3, 10.5, 6.75 and 1.3(X2)

NomDePlume · 21/04/2005 13:17

I also think that the older your kids become the more confident you become in your own ability to parent, I think you become less reliant on other parents reassurances and a little more trusting of your own instincts. Could be total tosh though !

Lonelymum · 21/04/2005 13:17

I only have one reply for you Marslady! Do it yourself and use a calculator!

Because you know it all by age 5.5 apparently!! I'll look forward to that age! I suppose they are going to school by then, you may be back at work, less time spent with child and maybe more time spent away from mumsnet - ie, back to work ( perhaps not for those in offices!) Also the problems are more diluted across the threads, education, travel, health etc. Also you might have younger children where like people have said, communication is a problem so you spend more time worrying and questioning about them! Those are my theories!

WideWebWitch · 21/04/2005 13:35

Mine are 7 and 17months
