Views on if there's an age limit to breastfeeding in public

I am totally for breastfeeding for as long as you are able / want to do it. So have no issues with extended breastfeeding (probably would put a cut off before 3 though)

I do however think that once a baby is no longer reliant on breast milk, and is totally weaned (probably around a year when it progresses to being a toddler) that it becomes a far more private affair between mother and toddler and should remain in the home (morning and night feeds)

So at what stage does a baby no longer need milk during the day? I think from a year. I think from a year is too old to offer a breast in public. And think especially if a toddler can walk, talk, pull up your top and accept a beaker then I think that's too old to breastfeed in public

your opinion is?

Vanessa Feltz always manages to look deeply interested though.

Oh the best thing is they get Joe Public to text in moving piccys of their body parts to the studio doc can comment on it - there was a picture (i kid you not) of a womans vulva!

Thoroughly enjoyed this thread. Off to bed now - so no getting serious again.

Gobbledigook · 14/04/2005 23:30

I know, why am I drawn into these predictable arguments? Thank God for Moo.

JoolsToo · 14/04/2005 23:32

Gobbledigook · 14/04/2005 23:35

I'm off to bed - I'm exhausted!!!!

I'm sure some posters have made up personas - they can't honestly be real can they?

binkybetsy · 14/04/2005 23:36

GeorginaA · 14/04/2005 23:39

That aimed at me, GDG?

Nah, figment of my own imagination me... just ask NdP

Hmm, now I think about it, that would explain a lot...

Aloha - I wear dresses if I want to.

My mouth has a "no" function and sometimes I use it. Sometimes my ds will ask nicely for chocolate - he doesn't get it. He asks nicely for a breastfeed when I am wearing a dress he doesn't get it. If he demands anything at all - he won't get it.

I don't have a problem with 25 month olds having bottles. For one it's none of my business and for two it's the same need that is being satisfied.

I am not out to convert anyone (and doubt I could). I will not deny that I breastfeed a 25 month old if asked, but neither will I justify myself. If anyone says "bitty" to me, I just say that this sketch has knocked my faith that "all publicity is good publicity".

People generally tell me I am "amazing" or some such thing, and I don't have the time to wonder if they are secretly thinking something else.

Maybe if my ds was "challenging" in his behaviour I would have stopped bacause I wouldn't want people to think the two were related (I don't BTW). But as he is a lovely sunny boy I think we are a great advertisement, and a good balance for bitty.

My only piece of advise would be to always describe breastfeeding in normal language, so you won't be embarrassed when your kid says the word back to you in a crowded restaurant.
