I'm teetering on the edge of posting this for fear of a slagging off - but am I alone in thinking that "New Look" sells cheap nasty clothes?

nailpolish · 11/04/2005 14:48

fimbo

i dont really buy their clothes, but i do like their shoes

theres not much else here in fife, new look is about the best there is (apart from one dotty p's)

saadia · 11/04/2005 14:57

Clothes that are the right size, I can't stand to see people wearing really tight and revealing things.

Just thought I'd also mention that this w/end there was a family gathering and as I'm still overweight from having ds2 (a year ago!!!) nothing actually fit properly so I ended up wearing a maternity top - three people commented that I looked like I'd lost weight!!!

clean shoes/hair/nails
stand up straight
good properly fitting underwear
shaped/plucked eyebrows
good haircut

I have my eyelashes dyed which is great, makes you look a bit together even when you don't have a chance to put make up on.

Bag on head

NomDePlume · 11/04/2005 15:17

Crotchless knickers and Pat Bitcher earrings.

cupcakes · 11/04/2005 17:08

nailpolish - I just read in this weekends Sunday Times Style mag that Dorothy Perkins is the bee's knees (or some similar compliment)
I would sooner shop there than New Look these days

nailpolish · 11/04/2005 17:27

yes i do like dotty p's

have fond memories of buying my first puffball skirt there!

dyzzidi · 11/04/2005 17:36

FEELING GOOD. I always look better when I feel better I think it is maybe a confidence thing.

I also have crap days when a slick of lipgloss doess the trick.

dropinthe · 11/04/2005 17:42

Haircur-neat eyebrows-best skin you can get from a bottle!! And concealer!

I second dyed eyelashes!

I got mine done just before having my daughter and in the all the post-baby pictures I am looking fat, knackered... but somehow mysteriously gorgeous! It's all down to the eyelashes...

vict17 · 11/04/2005 17:47

I always feel better if I'm the weight I want to be (which I'm half a stone over at the minute!!)

laneydaye · 11/04/2005 17:48

i always feel better when ive got my nails done... i love it... feel very feminine.

JoolsToo · 11/04/2005 18:03

head transplant

katierocket · 11/04/2005 18:05

with the eyelash dying thing, does it only work if you have fair eyelashes? or is it still worth doing if they're dark?

snafu · 11/04/2005 18:06

Duvet over head.

Looks great, especially if you choose a nicely ironed egyptian cotton one with a high thread count.

Pinotmum · 11/04/2005 18:06

Remove all mirrors

snafu · 11/04/2005 18:10

OK...

clean short fingernails
good posture
clothes can be cheap and cheerful but must fit
tidy eyebrows (and deforestation of top lip if necessary)
regular haircut (i.e. more than my twice-a-year chop)
mascara, lipgloss, blusher

JoolsToo · 11/04/2005 18:12

v good snafu - but not really thin eyebrows please and can I add clean shoes

Enid · 11/04/2005 18:14

re eyelashes - mine are pretty dark, I have blondy brown hair and blue eyes, I get them dyed Blue/Black - it gives them a slightly smudgy, more intense look, just looks as though you may have a bit of eye make up on. Very good if you have contact lenses too as you can avoid mascara (although I still wear it if I am going out as the dying doesn't thicken them IYKWIM)

Branster · 11/04/2005 18:23

clear skin and super clean hair.
even wearing the best clothes, you cannot look & feel your best if the above are not met IMHO

If I may, I disagree with the comments on cheaper clothes. it depends on teh fabric and the cut. If it's teh right cut for you, buy it. also, clothes on the continent are sooo much cheaper than here, yet better quality and far better tailoring I find.
