Help finding a kilt

I'm after some help! Me and my beloved are getting married in June and our small bundle of joy will be 16 months old at that time. His Daddy will be wearing a kilt and we'd like him to wear one as well. Does anyone know of a kilt hire place in Edinburgh which hires kilts for children that small?? (smile)

conker my DS's are going to my brother' v formal wedding this summer and I'm thinking of them wearing kilts (ages 3 and 5) - although it is a very English wedding. Their dad wears Farquarson Antique I think. Is that a tartan you're familiar with. And I also ask what accessories they'd wear at that age? HOw much approx would the kilts be?

Conkertree, my other half will be wearing Gunn (modern) tartan. Can you price up the outfit for me please? both with and without a jacket? wedding is in June

Yes to both pickupthismess and Tootlesmummy - I will get prices from my supplier for the tartans etc and work out my price, then get back to you.

Farquharson Ancient and Gunn Modern are both ones that my normal tartan supplier does. Just to let you know, there are three or four big tartan weavers who all tend to do the mainstream tartans, but each one has a slightly different take on the tartan in terms of pattern size etc. The colours may also be slightly different depending on the weaver, and so if you want to ensure that the tartan matches your dh/dp's one exactly, it would be best for me to get a sample and send it to you to see if it matches. If you'd like me to do that, email me at [email protected] with your address, and I will get samples ordered and sent to you.

So far, I have tried to stick to lighter weight tartans for baby and children's kilts, although I have made one with medium weight in order to use the same material as the father's kilt, and it worked fine too.

Farquharson has a light weight tartan, so I could get a sample of that to let you see too pickupthismess.

Tootlesmummy - Gunn doesnt come in the lightweight tartan, but as I say - the medium weight one works well too - if you like I could also get a sample of Gunn muted to let you see - or you can see it online at www.thekiltcompany.com/tartanfinder.asp - type in Gunn muted, then Gunn modern and you can see that they are similar but different tones of colour - might be something you'd like or you may prefer them to look exactly the same.

Anyway, email me if you'd like the samples, and in the mean time, I will get costings together for the full outfits as well.

I'll email you

pickupthismess - meant to say - in terms of accessories, the obvious ones would be a sporran and socks. Its probably best to get shoes yourself given that children's shoes probably need to be tried on before they are bought. A shirt would be worn, and you could have them wear a jacket as well since the wedding is formal.

As I was saying higher up the thread, I am looking at doing hire for children's accessories since they may not wear them enough to get the full value out of the purchase price, so I will go away and do some figures, and come back with a hire and a purchase price in the next few days.

great - will wait for your email.

Tootlesmummy · 29/01/2009 20:58

Will check the tartans on line once I get other halfs kilt out of storage and check the colouring etc re the 2 options you mentioned and I'll e mail you.

Thanks Conker. Hire would be great because I think they'll have grown out of them by the next chance to use them but I'll see what your costs are. Next challenge to persuade 5 yr old to wear it. Can you give me a quoteon sporan etc too? I have emailed by the way.

Tootlesmummy · 29/01/2009 21:28

Have e mailed
