Just wanted to wish everyone a Happy Mothers Day. Isn't it amazing, I'm the only one up in our house! By the way, did everyone remember to change the clocks? I got up early becuase our M. Day arrangements are really complicated and I need to tidy up and get stuff ready for school tomorrow before we go! The family are visiting a MIL, an ex-MIL, a friend who's like a Mum to us and then my Mum (who's my natural Mum, my adopted Mum died 17 years ago). Just a thought who everyone who's lost their Mum, whatever people say it never really stops hurting and I send you LOL and thoughts.
What's everyone else doing today? - whatever it is, have a Great Day!

I'm the only one up too!!! Must be a mothers day special. I'm starving but determined to wait until DH gets up and makes me breakfast.

jac34 · 30/03/2003 08:39

I'd got up before everyone, and went outside to peg the washing out. It was only when my DS's came rushing out with cards that I remembered it was Mother's Day.
It's the first year that they have writen on them, themseves, their 4yo.
I've had a tall glass vase and flowers, with a sort of Bee on a stick to go in them.

I got a card on Friday that my DD had made at nursery. I spent most of yesterday asking my DH if he needed to go out and buy anything. He would check the kitchen come back and say no. So I'm not holding out much hope for flowers!

eidsvold · 30/03/2003 09:47

oh this is my first mother's day and dd managed to wake us up at 6.30 ( yeh our clock in the bedroom was changed) Dh has made me breakfast and I received a lovely little air plant on a stand and a CD - along with a card. Dh is also doing roast dinner - so I am very spoilt.

Happy mother's day to all.

emsiewill · 30/03/2003 09:52

I've had cards from both girls and some chocolates that they made at their after school club. I have a very strong suspicion that we're going out for lunch, as dd2 said to me the other day "I'm not going to tell you where we're going on Mother's Day", and dd1 has been looking forward to mother's day so she can "wear my posh clothes" (she's a real girly girl, loves getting dressed up).
As jollymum says, thinking of those who have lost their mum, but also of those who have lost a child - today must be very hard for you.

EmmaTMG · 30/03/2003 10:16

Well ladies, once you've read this you're all going to think I'm mad. I'm making DH take the boys out so that I can have peace ansd quiet to do my house work. DS1 had chickenpox last week and DS2 erupted out in spots on Thursdays so I've been running around with Calamine lotion and Calpol for what seem like forever. The thought of having a quiet house to do housework is actually very appealing.
OH there a knock a the door and YES it's the men in white coats come to get me!

breeze · 30/03/2003 10:40

Woken by Dh and DS with breakfast in bed, a flower, card and a pressie then DS sang me Happy Birthday to my mummy, and every 5 minutes keeps kissing me and saying Happy mummy's day. (he's 3). Visit my mum then off to MIL's for dinner while sitting in the garden relaxing.

happy mothers day to you all

snickers · 30/03/2003 10:46

HAPPY MOTHERS DAY! Hurrah for Mums everywhere...

My mothers day postponed to this coming Friday, as DH travelling abroad today for three days - and First Mothers day for me too Ah well, lunch out for us on Friday. Have a lovely one gals...

(p.s. DH upstairs at the mo changing a very stinky girl before he leaves - he he)

SoupDragon · 30/03/2003 10:48

I was woken up by the sound of DH and DS1 sword fighting in the kitchen

I've had a card but I'm not holding out much hope for flowers. I'll settle for not having to change any nappies instead!

oxocube · 30/03/2003 10:50

Got nothing, not even an apology from DH for forgetting. Am not surpised and didn't think I would even be bothered but stupidly, I am.

Tissy · 30/03/2003 11:05

I got a card on Friday that dd had made at nursery, as she's only 14 mo old, I suspect she had some help. Nevertheless, it brought a lump to my throat! Flowers bought by dh were presented yesterday, as there isn't really anywhere to hide them from me!

Didn't get breakfast in bed... have to work today, so had to be out of the house by 7.45, and yes, I forgot about the clocks, so arrived an hour late

Moomin · 30/03/2003 11:34

What a difference a year makes!!! This time last year, my 1st M.Day, got a card from the corner shop. Dh is usually very thoughtful with pressies, flowers etc. so I was very disappointed. He said he had thought that, until dd was old enough to buy stuff of her own, a card would be ample. I disagreed on the grounds that giving him the chance to be a daddy was the "best thing anyone had ever done for him" (his words) and so I would appreciate a little more thought...

This year: bouquet delivered yesterday, card and present this morning, plus bucks fizz, smoked salmon, eggs and bagels - that's more like it!!! Don't judge me too harshly - I only get one opportunity per year to be a spoilt madam (and get away with it!)
Happy Mothers Day to everyone!

GeorginaA · 30/03/2003 11:51

I've had a lovely mother's day so far - dh made sure I had a lovely long lie in and then ds brought me his present and card (okay, so he didn't quite understand that the present was for me and "helped" unwrap it, but hey it was really cute anyway!) - yay, I got the Morrowind expansion (computer game). Happy Mummy!

Getting taken out to a carvery for a Mummy's Day tea too! It's great, I feel all loved and appreciated!

SoupDragon · 30/03/2003 11:54

And when are you going to get time to play a computer game...? I've got Myst somewhere and once DSs arrived, it just got shoved to one side - I don't think it's even installed on this PC LOL!

GeorginaA · 30/03/2003 11:57

SoupDragon: when ds sleeps - 12.30 - 2.30 and after 7pm (spot the GF kid, lol). Got more organised recently and do chores with ds helping during the day in short bursts and always eat with him, so nothing to do when he goes to bed other than pamper myself

GeorginaA · 30/03/2003 11:58

(Of course, it helps that I'm not really a TV person... Buffy being the notable exception)

Chinchilla · 30/03/2003 12:28

I got ds running towards me with a card, which he delightedly threw at me and then ran off! I also got a present earler in the week, that I chose. We are going out to lunch anywhere that will take people who haven't booked (optimistic, moi?!)

Have a fab day everyone.

Hilary · 30/03/2003 12:43

I got two lovely cards which the boys had drawn in and a hairdrier and a mug. I did have to do some 'Argos-catalogue-hinting' for the hairdrier but am very pleased anyway!

At church I got two slightly mangled bunches of daffodils, a sachet of fair trade tea and one of coffee and two home made cards. Oh, and the Dads ran the creche instead of us Mums which was perhaps the best bit of all!

Oh and a lie-in...yes, feeling very special today.

Lots of love to anyone who finds today very hard. I do understand a bit as I find fathers day almost unbearable since my dad died.

Hilary · 30/03/2003 12:44

Sorry, that should be hairdryer...

Clarinet60 · 30/03/2003 13:09

I was the last one up today, hurray!!!

DS2 woke at 6:30, but I managed to persuade hime to have another 2 hours so we snuggled dow together. DH got up with DS1.
So that was the most sleep I've had for nearly a year, as the baby is into marathon B/feeds after midnight. Phew!

shelleyb · 30/03/2003 13:30

oxocube - I know how you feel - my dh didn't get me a valentine card this year. apparently I "know" he loves me and he thinks they are waste of money. my argument was that he knows it matters to me and should therefore make the effort. if anyone is not getting one it should be him as he doesn't believe in it. but stupidly i do.
And I didn't get the most exciting mothers day present either. It's a DVD.... Shrek. Still at least i can curl up with my boys and watch it this afternoon while he makes dinner

Lara2 · 30/03/2003 13:45

oxocube, me neither! feeling very sorry for myself - how much effort does it take??????

lorne · 30/03/2003 16:29

Have had a lovely mothers day. Got a long lie in bed, a lovely card and we are just back from having a lovely lunch out and had great fun in the park. It was a lovely day, really enjoyed it. My ds who is 3.7 kept saying that he had a lovely day can we do it again tomorrow!! I said no such luck!! Hope you are all having a nice day too.

jac34 · 30/03/2003 16:43

I've had a lovely day, DH cooked a cracking lunch, my Mum and Dad came round.
Mum and I spent the afternoon in the garden sipping red wine, while Dad and DH entertained the boys.
We are off down the local pub now for tea, and the boys can play out in the beer garden with the kids from our street.
