i am in the east end. i really love it. we have everything on our doorstep.

Penthesileia · 29/01/2009 21:37

Oooooh - where in the east end?

hothell · 29/01/2009 21:39

in a trendy part of the east end, in fact trendy and vibrant. don't want to say too much in case i get recognised by other mumsnetters.

Penthesileia · 29/01/2009 21:39

Vis-a-vis contintental educated kids 'knowing' more stuff (theory, facts, etc.): I think that's why I always fancied Italian/German/French boys... They knew things about Marx, or Saussure. And spoke funny, like.

hothell · 29/01/2009 21:39

is beforesunrise near you pippi?

Penthesileia · 29/01/2009 21:40

Fair enough! I heart the east end. I probably work quite close to you...

hothell · 29/01/2009 21:40

sigh, french boys....

hothell · 29/01/2009 21:43

i thought you were in italy, i am confused now.

hothell · 29/01/2009 21:43

the last if for penthe

Penthesileia · 29/01/2009 21:45

No, in the UK: DH is Italian, long-time resident here.

Sorry for confusing you!

francagoestohollywood · 29/01/2009 21:46

Yes, they used to sing a lot in ds's primary in the UK too hothell. They were so cute. I can probably still shed a tear thinking back at the last nativity play they had before we left .
and sigh at french boys too...

francagoestohollywood · 29/01/2009 21:48

lol we are getting confused

PippiCalzelunghe · 29/01/2009 21:49

not sure hot. she said NW I'm north. could be a minute or like sunflower says could be the usual hour. yes although borderline hertfordshire it takes me 30min to the west end. you know what bugs be the most about suburbia? that while I see it as london and use it as such (as much as kids permit) most people think west end is another country and won;t go out anywhere that involves getting the tube or train etc. sad. you might as well move to the country then, I say.

Saussure... now you talk dirty to me penthe. haven't heard his name since my uni days (when I heard it far too many times). OH how much do I want to study for an MA ... [pippi sad whishful look emoticon].

PippiCalzelunghe · 29/01/2009 21:50

french boys don;t do it for me, with that accent... no no no not sexy I'm afraid.

Brangelina · 29/01/2009 21:52

French boys are overrated.

I loved living in the East End too, I used to live just off Roman road in the 80s and it ws really cool, a real mix and fun people. Apart from the knobheads who set light to students' cars, but I expect they've all been hounded out by gentrification nowadays. The Pulp song described it quite well.

Penthesileia · 29/01/2009 21:52

Oooh, baby - the sign! Oh, and the signifier! Oh!

This will make you all hot!

francagoestohollywood · 29/01/2009 21:53

I still kind of hope that soemday dh gets a job in london. However the thought of schooling the dc in London makes me shiver. Maybe in 15 yrs time? Would you still be there? We could do things together

hothell · 29/01/2009 21:54

Serge Gainsbourg, my girl?
So where roughtly are you penthe?
They have interesting MAs at UCL (hothell dreams on). Off to bed girls, I so much want to read.

francagoestohollywood · 29/01/2009 21:56

Lol Penthe!

Brange, of course nowadays I can't be bothered with french boys. I only have eyes for Scamy. And the odd attraction to travaglio

hothell · 29/01/2009 21:56

London schools ain't that bad! Don't listen to les femmes de Mumsnet! I will be here for sure.

francagoestohollywood · 29/01/2009 21:56

Your dcs can sing with my dcs all those beakutiful xmas carols.

francagoestohollywood · 29/01/2009 21:58

It's not the primary I'm thinking about. Plus, like Fantozzi, I have allucinazioni competitive... and London sounds very competitive.

PippiCalzelunghe · 29/01/2009 21:59

whatever you do DO NOT MENTION MAs AT UCL!!!!!!!

Penthe you are my MN lover! It's a definite!!

The East End is the only part of London I've never lived in. And not for a choice. Like I said before most of my abodes have been selected by either the location of idiots boyfriends or by pure chance or by rent or by all the above at the same time. When I discoverd that there was a place called De Beauvoire Town I was convinced I had to live there.
