Grrr! ASDA have bleached my NEW buggy!!

BadgerBadger · 01/04/2005 12:54

DH went shopping two nights ago, when he got home we found the bleach he'd bought had leaked (it was in a seperate bag).

Today I got my NEW £80 buggy out of the boot to use to find that it has bleach stains all over the footmuff, and the seat and seat back .

ASDA wont take liability, should they? What do you think? They said if they cap was loose at the time of purchase, it couldn't be considered their fault as a child may have opened it (so much for child proof cap!) in store, therefore, not their problem!!

From past experience with Asda I think you will have better luck contacting their head office.

There is a facility on their web site to email them

galaxy · 03/04/2005 21:05

Tesco bleach leaked all over dh's boot the other day - I was blamed as I forced him to go to Tesco to save money.

BadgerBadger · 03/04/2005 21:31

Thanks for the tip Saffy .

Galaxy, my DH is next in the firing line .

Handlemecarefully, please don't let TCC bother you. Anyone lacking the strength of character to use their real MN name to post something controversial (or rude!) can only really be pitied.
Probably only a troll anyway, and we don't listen to them, right?

Over the last year or so you've always struck me as a lovely person. I'm honestly sorry to see that you have been bothered by this.

Socci and Badger - thanks you're both sweet

I dunno, the odd uncalled for remark on the talk boards gets to you from time to time doesn't it? and other times it doesn't ruffle you at all...!

handlemecarefully · 03/04/2005 22:44

(should explain I am feeling a bit 'tender' after falling out with someone on here a couple of days ago...so my 'hostility' antennae is a bit finely attuned at the moment, so I am even taken umbrage at nasty remarks aimed at other people (i.e. the dig from TCC at you Badger).

I am sure that things will look different to me in a couple of days and I will feel all loved up about the site and the people on it again, most of whom are really lovely, it has to be said.

BadgerBadger · 04/04/2005 11:04

LMAO at 'hostility antennae' (in empathy, it has to be said ).

It's good to have a bit of diversity though - the odd nasty snipe just highlights how damn lovely everyone else is!

so, tell all, any response from Asda.

BadgerBadger · 04/04/2005 11:06

MTS, I couldn't get there on Friday, so we decided to leave it until today.......I'll post after we've been.

badger good luck, i think asdas should compensate you too, so does my dh!!

speak loudly if you dont get your own way, managers hate other customers showing distress, it dont look good for the image...start off calmly first though

i remember putting 4 bottles of wine into a tesco bag, and then the handles broke when i got home thus smashing one of the bottles, (lucky it was only the one)

when you think about it, it was my fault for putting too many bottles into the bag...but i always put 4 in the bag before but at the time tesco had changed the bags and they were much weaker (since then, they have gone back to the way they used to be, stronger)

anyway i had a free bottle to replace the one that i broke...it was worth a try, and it was kind of them to do that for me, they didnt have to!!

good luck, im intrigued as to what the outcome will be, so will keep a close eye on this thread

I have to say that I have my doubts as to whether Asda are responsible - do you know if the bleach was kept upright in the back of the car?

It appears to have got from the shelf into the trolley, out of the trolley and along the conveyer belt and into a plastic bag without mishap and without a leakage problem being noticed by your dh or the cashier.

I also can't see how it could leak so extensively and cause such widespread damamge to the buggy if it was upright in the car with a loose lid, but inside a plastic bag.

Having said that, shops will often replace stuff as a gesture of goodwill.....

NomDePlume · 04/04/2005 14:51

I don't think it is ASDA's fault TBH and I'd be pretty surprised if you were offered a refund. Good luck if you do persue it though.

Cam · 04/04/2005 17:04

Did you get anywhere Badger?

Fimbo · 05/04/2005 14:04

.

jangly · 05/04/2005 14:12

I think its Asda's responsibility. Tell them you are contacting Trading Standards. Then do just that - see what they say.

BadgerBadger · 05/04/2005 17:12

Met the manager. He was very apologetic about the buggy (which I showed him).

I banged on a bit (ok, a lot!) about the safety aspect, i.e. what if it had spilt on a child..... They are now instructing (as I suggested ) each floor worker to check the bottle lids are tight upon restocking and each checkout worker to check caps of bottles containing toxic substances to be tightened on the way through the till!

That is a good result as far as I'm concerned.

He was in complete agreement that a chemicals shouldn't leak, for any reason (fault or loose cap) and is going to contact me tomorrow to discuss what to do re the buggy.

Great result BadgerBadger!

FWIW I'd have complained loudly too and I think they should pay for a new buggy.

jangly · 05/04/2005 18:50

Glad the manager was a bit more sensible than his staff. You stick out for a new buggy. That bottle was in the condition they sold it to you and it should have been safe to handle.

bubbly1973 · 05/04/2005 20:26

oooo lovely outcome so far badger!!

hope you got the managers name!! just incase he forgets to ring, then you can ring asking for him

i had to buy bleach today in tesco...i never give it much thought before, but i found myself checking that the top was on, and i noticed that the cashier put the bleach in a bag and tied the handles!!...never noticed that before until this thread!

HappyDaddy · 05/04/2005 20:29

The cashier must be a mumsnetter bubbly.

BadgerBadger · 05/04/2005 22:53

Bubbly, I realised something today (whilst triple bagging the bleach to take it back to the shop!)........... the darn bags have holes in the bottom anyway!

I mean, I know it's for the sake of safety, but doesn't help much where bleach is concerned.

Glad your Tesco staff are conscientious though .

badger...any more news on the buggy front..did he call?

happydaddy, lol...no my cashier was a 50+ old man
so doubt very much he was a mumnsetter

BadgerBadger · 22/04/2005 22:00

No news yet Bubbly (saw your other post ).

I received a bog standard 'we are looking into your complaint' type of letter from their customer services, buy nothing specific .... I might have to give them a deadline!

bubbly1973 · 02/05/2005 20:49
