DS2 (7.9) is currently in tears because his puppy keeps forgetting its name. How long will it take for it to learn the name because I'm going to send the farking thing to the dogs' Home.

Oh, and can they die? Because I don't think I can go through all this and then the trauma of a dead virtual pet

I've had to take my DDs (11 and 1 day) of her because she spent all day yesterday crying over it. I don't know if they can die but the can run away. She can't cope with the pressure

harleyd · 30/12/2008 14:40

dd1 says you have to say it 10 or 20 times if it doesnt understand your voice, and they dont die

im sure thats no help at all though

UnfortunatelyMe · 30/12/2008 14:42

DD1 says you should get a girl dog as they learn the names quicker. Then it moves on to SIT

SoupDragon · 30/12/2008 14:42

At this rate Biscuit won't survive past his first day.

he wants me to help despite the fact that I've explain my voice and his aren't the same. It doesn't help that DS1 is sat on the sofa calling "Sam! Sam!" at his dalmatian.

Can you sex change the puppy? He's said it way more than 20 times and I'm going to weep myself in a minute...

OP posts:
UnfortunatelyMe · 30/12/2008 14:45

It does take a while, and LOL it does get funny as they get angry at it lol so it really wont recognise them. Send him somewhere quite to do it.
You cant change sex, you would have to restart.

UnfortunatelyMe · 30/12/2008 14:45

DD1 says when you are playing with it call its name, that helps too.

SoupDragon · 30/12/2008 14:47

So, it would be sensible for me to suggest he goes and sits in his bedroom, well away from me, with the door shut calmly calling his puppy....?

harleyd · 30/12/2008 14:47

dd said dont be ridiculous mummy of course you cant change the sex
we had tears over this last xmas, but she managed to sort it before i fecked it out the window

SoupDragon · 30/12/2008 14:49

Apparently he's not doing it because it'll take ages. Thank goodness it's not a real puppy eh? It lasted under 30 minutes

cocolepew · 30/12/2008 14:49

DD spent saturday calling "susan sit" over and over again.

DD2 aged7 eventually yelled "for God's sake Susan, SIT".

DD1 didn't see the funny side.

OrmIrian · 30/12/2008 14:49

They don't die. But it takes ages for the stupid things to remember their names. DD kept at it for ages - drove us all mad!

And then you can get him a horse-riding name. Then he will have to yell encouragement at the bloody nag to get it round the dressage ring, and the race track . And then there's the cat games too.... DD has also aquired a dolphin game - the moment I catch her clapping her flippers and making clicky noises the damn thing is going in the bin!

UnfortunatelyMe · 30/12/2008 14:51

Best thing is out of the way, on his own...calmly. Tell him after that its all good fun..

harleyd · 30/12/2008 14:54

i could kiss the dude who made my ipod, i have one dd playing nintendogs, one dd dancing on the wii to hsm, one ds on the xbox playing gutiar hero and little ds bashing a toy piano thing

muggglewump · 30/12/2008 14:59

Just keep saying it and it will learn. We have a dalmation called Spot!
They don't die, apparently they run away for a bit if you don't treat them well enough but ours hasn't done that yet.
DD does want to buy another puppy though and I have to keep telling her to save the competition money. She insists on spending at all at the shops and then gets Peed off that she's got none left!

SoupDragon · 30/12/2008 15:03

If I record him saying "biscuit" do you think I can play it on a continuous loop until the bloody thing learn?

It seems Sam the Dalmatian has gone the same way as Biscuit the Retriever and DS1 is usually far more patient than this...

Especially not a 7 yo who has, shall we say, emotional problems with disappointment

When I calmly pointed that out to DS2 he shouted "thanks a lot for helping", stomped out and slammed the door

I was on MN, posting this thread to try and find answers but I don't think he understood that...

My friends girl called her dog Tiny and to begin with it was being said all girly and fluffy like, then 20 mins later she was really aggressively shouting "TINY!" at it and we couldn't stop laughing, much to her disgust.

Jbck · 30/12/2008 15:42

Will it run away if the DS is confiscated for a few days?

UnfortunatelyMe · 30/12/2008 15:43

Yes you will have to look after it

ComeWhineWithMe · 30/12/2008 15:51
