HELP! How do i transport newborn when i take ds1 into preschool?

Didnt know where to post! Ds2 due anytime soon and ds1 goes to preschool of which we drive to as too far to walk.

IT is quite a walk from where we park the car and you cant get a pram past the gate (stupid i know!) as it has one of those bar type things to stop kids running on the road and when you get to preschool you cant take prams in anyway you have to leave them outside (under a cover) i obv wouldnt leave baby there so had planned on using car seat from door inside whilst picking ds1 up. What do i do? Its going to be too long a walk carrying the car seat with baby in esp as i have bad back. Didnt want to have to fart around getting baby out of seat, into a carrier, strap him in, get ds and get 2 kids into car seats. WHAT DO I DO??

Am i going to have to carry him in all the time in my arms? Is there no easier way that im just not thinking about?

I would just carry him in arms. Is that a problem?

singyswife · 06/11/2008 16:25

Pappoose thing???? What a silly system this sounds like at the school. Alternatively could you not get a friend to meet you at the car and take your child in the school gates that way you have taken him to school and said goodbye you just havent physically walked him in.

sling

sling

RhinestoneCowgirl · 06/11/2008 16:26

It doesn't take long to get them into a sling tho?

sorkycake · 06/11/2008 16:29

buy a coorie, wear it under your coat. Remove baby from car seat and pop into sling, get Ds out of car and go to preschool.

On the way back what difference does it matter how long it takes to reverse?

mad4mybaby · 06/11/2008 17:08

ds1 has just stopped afternoon sleep and his sessions are in the pm and he is a nightmare getting out of preschool as so tired so dragging his feet, moaning you know the usual! Just want to make it as stress free as possible esp as im going to have 2 to strap in although at least baby cant fight back!

but with a sling you'd have both hands free and would hold his hand to the car, put him in first, strap him as usual and then take the baby out of the sling.

mad4mybaby · 06/11/2008 17:13

which type of sling? Sorry never bothered with them with ds1 as i bought one that was supposed to be great but the sling thing was a bit like a man bag, literlly just went over your shoulder with baby in it and baby would swing around and if you leant forward he was always almost tipping out! Always felt like i had to have an arm round him IUSWIM. i do have a tomy carrier thing but is such a faff to get baby in and out of, adjusting stuff etc etc. Ive seen people with like bandage type things but they look like they need alot of wrapping/time to secure

there are tons of types out there, ring wrap, but I prefer a Coorie sling for a newborn.
I bought mine from brightspark slings, I think. You wear it like a sash (fleece material).

Lots of threads on slings though. Check out what others use and then decide which one might be better for you.

Man-bag ones are useless I agree.

mad4mybaby · 06/11/2008 17:17

glad you knew what i meant about man bags!

Mei Tai's a great for long term but a sling type one which you can pop baby in and out would be quicker

mrsgboring · 06/11/2008 17:24

If you feel insecure about a pouch type a pretied stretchy wrap is very very quick to pop baby in once you get used to it.

mad4mybaby · 06/11/2008 19:16

are there any particular types of pre tied i should look for? As in whats good whats bad... sorry i dont have a clue about them

there is a mum at our music group who had 18month old twins and then a newborn...

she got this really amzing sling thing that the baby could wear all the time (including in his car seat) AND she wore the adult bit all the time too....

it meant that she just had to clip the baby part of the sling on and of the grown up part of the sling... (which in real life quick and easy )

i cant remember exactly what it was though, but it might suit you, as you dont have to constantly put him (and you) in and out of the sling...

she used it for our music group as you couldnt always park very close and cant have buggies in the same room either and had to hold the hands of 2 18 month olds through the car park...

had several conversations about how great it really was!

SOLOtsofBangers · 06/11/2008 21:36

Sling.

mad4mybaby · 06/11/2008 22:06

nanny, care to share who made it or where it came from?? sounds ideal!

OP posts:
nannyL · 06/11/2008 22:08

really sorry... i cant remember what make it was or where it was from, but im quite sure it was from england...

was a bit more expensive buit not loads and loads more.

If i see the mum at music next week i will ask her

it was blue if that helps?

mad4mybaby · 06/11/2008 22:10

HAHA prob take me a while to track down a blue sling!

The only time i will be using it will be the preschool trips so dont want to spend tooooo much but then at the same time will obv have to carry him until he can walk....

nannyL - I invented that sling!!!!

Well, in my head I did. When dd was small. I'm glad that someone else has actually gone and got it produced. You HAVE to remember the name of it now so I can see how it works.

nannyL · 06/11/2008 22:14

been hunting around

im pretty sure it was this bush baby one from this link www.travellingwithchildren.co.uk/acatalog/Bushbaby_Cocoon_Carrier.html
(the 4th sling down on the page)

infact having had my memory jogged it was definitley made by 'bushbaby'

nannyL · 06/11/2008 22:16

the main site link here www.bush-baby.com/cocoon.htm

mad4mybaby · 07/11/2008 10:43

it says you can lay them straight down to sleep, could you (before you leave house say) strap me up, strap baby up THEN put him in car seat whilst in it and then just pick him up and clip him on or is that too simple??

Pretied wrap - I had a Kari-Me but any kind of stretchy wrap is fine.

beforesunrise · 07/11/2008 11:04

wrap sling (i have a moby and it's great for newborns). you tie at home and pop the baby in once you get there.
