I just do.

I am soooo jealous of anyone who lives there.

I've travelled a fair bit and it's still one of my favourite places in the whole wide world.

I'm going to live there one day .

The closest we came was when dh was offered a job in Falmouth but the salary was very low. He turned it down but it led to a lot of soul searching between us. We wondered if the standard of living was lower there and thus the lower salary was justified....

We stay at the St Moritz villas. Surfing for softies I call it. Very comfortable villas - four bedrooms, 3 bathrooms, all mod cons, a shower outside so you can come back in your wettie and change at the villa. Pool, sauna, jacuzzi on site. No camping at £2 a night and chipping the ice off your wettie in the morning for me thank you.

He stays at St Moritz?

Lonelymum · 26/02/2005 20:18

My MIL has one of the holiday homes behind the St Moritz villas! We stay there now (obviously) although before she fell in love with Cornwall too through coming on holiday with us we used to rent houses all ovewr the place. Her house looks on to St Moritz's tennis courts. How funny, we might even have bumped into you (not that I make a habit of walking into people you understand!)

Surfermum · 26/02/2005 20:21

Wow! I've always said that if I won the lottery I would buy one of those houses, retire down there and write my novel. I just love sitting and looking at the sea.

Lonelymum · 26/02/2005 20:23

You can't live in them full time though. It is part of the sale agreement that no-one lives in those houses. Still, as it stands at the moment, dh is due to inherit that house from his mother and I for one would be happy to live down there for as many weeks a year as is allowed.

Surfermum · 26/02/2005 20:35

We always have the discussion when we're in Cornwall, would we really want to live there or would it just not be the same if we did. There is something about crossing the Tamar, or Bodmin Moor that just relaxes me.

Lonelymum · 26/02/2005 20:40

We have the same discussion. I think I would probably hate living somewhere too touristy: I remember once being in Polzeath a week after the school holidays finished and feeling so sad and lonely with all the holiday makers gone home. But it would be equally annoying to have them all crowding out the beaches and roads in the summer after a quiet winter and spring without them. That is why I think Truro would suit me best as it is not a holiday mecca but it is close enough to all the best parts of Cornwall.

PuffTheMagicDragon · 26/02/2005 20:42

Agree about Truro Lonelymum - I'd like to live there (or within 5 miles). Love the fact that M&S is there too!

One of my top ten Cornwall moments was being rowed up Frenchman's Creek by dh when I was 6m pregnant.

PuffTheMagicDragon · 26/02/2005 21:52

How romantic Surfermum .

It was January and a lovely clear, sunny day. There were no other boats about on the river and when he stopped rowing and we just drifted you could hear absolutely nothing.

bubbly1973 · 26/02/2005 23:12

i love cornwall too, its the one place i would retire to, i love loo, polperry, st ives, mevigissy (sp?) i would one day love to come to cornwall when it has snowed,

last time we were there, we discovered a lovely pub..think its called polgooth in, do the best ever fish n chips!!

spending a few weeks this year for the summer, theres a fab site in st austell called trent creek farm, great for kids, has farm animals wondering around, kids love it!!

helsi · 26/02/2005 23:20

My family hail from Cornwall. Padstoe. I've only ever been once and that was about 17 years ago.

helsi · 26/02/2005 23:20

I mean Padstow!

jodee · 26/02/2005 23:54

Hope to go back there one day, stayed in Helford Passage in 1999, trying to get pg, not realising I already was! Oh my, the steep hills, the monstrously high hedges and narrow lanes, driving down there was an experience!!

Why don't we club together and build a big hippy MN commune in Cornwall?

joash · 27/02/2005 08:52

We always get mistaken for locals (by tourists and locals alike) - don't know why 'cause we have broad yorkshire accents.

My partner and I are planning to do a week in Cornwall either end Aug or mid-September. Neither of us is particularly familiar with Cornwall save for a couple of holidays as children.

I would love some recommendations so I can start my research based on our preferences if anyone is happy to offer their thoughts 😁

We're either side of 50yrs
During the day we like to walk around pretty towns and coastal paths (fit but not avid walkers), areas of historic interest, beautiful views (hence Cornwall!) etc
Of an evening we love "proper" pubs and a decent selection for a week's holiday 🍻
We want to be close enough to walk to the pubs in the evening, but happy to drive for days out, noting we don't want to be sat in holiday traffic for hours each day lol. We are looking for a holiday cottage, definitely no caravan/lodge or holiday parks.

From what's I've heard about Cornwall we should get many suggestions, hoping you can help 😁
