Is living in London fab?

I have been offered a job in London next year, it would mean delaying something quite big (a degree!) so I probably won't do it, but I have always wanted to live in London for a bit. I am young/single/child free so in terms of practical stuff its easy for me to move.

I have grown up in industrial northern cities, so I suppose the idea of going somewhere with all the fab shops, museums, restaurants excites me. London just seems to have a lot going for it.

I lived in Brussels for two years but that wasn't very exciting. Is living in London exciting, or is the busyness/cost etc just a hassle?

Fair enough gdg, i suppose i'm the same about london as you are about manchester

I love living in London - I have lived here while I was single and childless and now with a family. Nowhere else compares imo. I would agree with others though - do your degree first and then come here. Also, I think it can be a very lonely place (like anywhere I suppose) if you don't know anyone. On the other hand other people I know hate the dirt, the expense, the transport and can't wait to move out.

gobblidogook, where in manchester are you?

Gobbledigook · 25/02/2005 19:10

S.Manchester/Cheshire alexsmum. I LOVE it! Right near the airport, the M6, the metrolink, Trafford Centre. 20 mins into central Manchester which, as far as I'm concerned, has everything London has. 10 mins from mine to Dunham and Tatton (ie countryside). Fab, fab schools here too.

There are lots of places like it I'm sure, it's just that this is where my heart is. Bleurgh!

alexsmum · 25/02/2005 19:12

gobbldigook, i think you might live near me! curious and curiouser!

Gobbledigook · 25/02/2005 19:13

Spooky!! What letter does the town begin with that you live in (or nearest town)?!

JoolsToo · 25/02/2005 19:14

GDG - I knew you'd be on here

Gobbledigook · 25/02/2005 19:15

Can't resist putting my two-penneth in!

Londo is in my opinion one of if not the greatest city there is. I love it. Wish I could afford to live in London rather than out in the "suburbs". But, I do think you have to be a city person. Some people don't like the crowded hustle and bustle... but I'm not one of them. If you like big cities, I think now is the time to go for it.

Goo dluck with whatever you decide.

Gobbledigook · 25/02/2005 19:18

Have I got it in this list:

Stockport
Stretford
Sale

JoolsToo · 25/02/2005 19:18

I've never lived in London but visited GDG. I followed her around like a child - I found it very overwhelming and hated the fact that I couldn't get a cup of Typhoo in Putney cafes - they had every fancy make of tea under the sun but try and get a proper cup of Rosie Lee and your stuffed.

Love the National Gallery tho - my favourite place in London!

alexsmum · 25/02/2005 19:19

yes

JoolsToo · 25/02/2005 19:20

I guess Stockport?

alexsmum · 25/02/2005 19:22

now that would be telling

Gobbledigook · 25/02/2005 19:22

Yep, you must live pretty near me then. My Dad grew up in the second one and I have an Auntie there but I don't live there - I'm further south than that.

Lets not say where we both live but it's nice to know we are close by! I'll remember you now - hmmm, I'll be looking on the tram thinking 'ooh, is that her?'

Lockets, I lived Fulham/Putney (Fulham strictly I think) quite near a park beginning with B but can't remember the name of it. From Fulham it's on the right just as you are going into Putney.

alexsmum · 25/02/2005 19:24

the fact that you have just said the tram gives me a clue to where you might live...we tried to buy a house there a few years ago!

JoolsToo · 25/02/2005 19:24

you mean you could have fixed it for me? I wished I'd known - I was gagging - Earl Grey? - bleurrggghh

Gobbledigook · 25/02/2005 19:25

Hee hee! From my old house (not too far from here) I could walk to the tram but from this house I can't so actually probably wouldn't be on it that much. Too bloody lazy anyway and drive everywhere

alexsmum · 25/02/2005 19:25

just out of curiousity, if you were looking at people on the tram wondering, what those people look like? how do you imagine i would look?

JoolsToo · 25/02/2005 19:25

you so could walk to the tram from there you lazy g*t

JoolsToo · 25/02/2005 19:26

alexsmum · 25/02/2005 19:27
