On holiday abroad, couple pushing a pram, the pram wheel got stuck on a step and the baby flew out of the pram and hit the ground head first. Was horrible and haunted me the rest of my holiday

So please please strap your babies in, I haven't on the odd occasion but am doing it religiously after seeing that.

no - not hidden under the mattress

thumbwitch · 08/09/2008 00:22

If you don't mind defacing your carrycot/seat, can you cut slits in the bottom of it and run just the straps of a harness through, so the uncomfy bits are below the base of the carrycot/seat but your DC is able to be strapped in?

differentID · 08/09/2008 00:23

was it the infinity you had?

FAQ · 08/09/2008 00:24

nappyaddict · 08/09/2008 00:24

FAQ · 08/09/2008 00:25

it's the inifity I HAVE (firmly into the pushchair part of it now - what with DS3 being 15 months and all ) so strapped in at all times.

differentID · 08/09/2008 00:25

It would never occur to me NOT to strap DD in.... When she was in the carrycot part of her pram, there was a crotch/waist strap and you could feed the straps for the pus chair through. I didn't ever do that, but she was safe with the other thing on.

I think in the carrycot or whatever it is you use of that sort, when teeny, they more often than not, also have some sort of pram apron thing/ buggy snuggle etc, well in winter! guess not in summer! Well you know what I mean I hope!

I'm really shocked to hear that people don't strap them in. Why would you not bother.

BTW, my pram was a silvercross pramette style thing ( a 3D something or other... converted into a pushcair.) I then got a bugaboo wich has a great carrycot. Can't remember if as straps, I think it does though. Besides, the sides are very deep in that. Sorry, I've waffled on and on...

FAQ · 08/09/2008 00:29

nope - didn't have that when I bought mine. (and just crept up to the DS's room to check as I still have the carrycot waiting to sell it when he's finally out of the system). (and that mattress came out lots as he slept in there for the first 2 months too as he wouldn't sleep anywhere else and like to dribble/sicck on it )

nappyaddict · 08/09/2008 00:30

i haven't strapped in ds since he was 12 months cos the harness doesn't fit anymore.

differentID · 08/09/2008 00:31

I know that they've tightened up regulations with regards to pushchair safety recently, maybe you had an older model?

FAQ · 08/09/2008 00:32

I strap DS3 in properly - then he pulls his arms out and sit with just his middle and crotch "held" in.....I've crashed many a times (3rd baby and I still can't steer a pushchair ) and he's not come close to falling out yet.

FAQ · 08/09/2008 00:34

bought it

differentID · 08/09/2008 00:36

could be. ANyway, he has survived this long- I don't think the carrycot straps will affect him now?

FAQ · 08/09/2008 00:43

no I don't think so - have a job to squeeze him in it now he's already huge for the pushchair

differentID · 08/09/2008 00:46

lol. That's the one thing I hate about all that type of pushchair- once yur little one reaches 18 months and is quite big, their not really the most forgiving of items are they. All of them- Hauck, bugaboo, Buzz, zapp, loola, they aren't the best pushchair for over 2's unless you have a particularly dainty child

FAQ · 08/09/2008 00:49

lol the words "dainty" and "FAQ's DS's" don't really go together at all.

differentID · 08/09/2008 00:49

I guessed as much

FAQ · 08/09/2008 00:51

and my children seem to get progressively bigger - all roughly the same size when born (7.5lb-7.11lb)

DS1 was always big for his age
DS2 is even bigger for his age
and DS3 - well it's just silly

differentID · 08/09/2008 01:02

you stick them in growbags overnight and water well then?

FAQ · 08/09/2008 01:05

yes - I'm getting better with each one, hence each child being bigger than the last (miraculously found 5 pairs of grey school trousers that were still wearable of DS1's - obvoiusly from when he was in Reception - DS2 start reception a week tomorrow, tried the trouser on him and they were 3 inches too short )

differentID · 08/09/2008 01:08

I remember the thread.

FlightAttendent · 08/09/2008 07:31

The Jane Auto carrycot has a large tummy strap, like a belt. That is very good.

It is for in the car though, you can use it as a car seat only it is a flat cot.

I am not sure of the safety of it as a car seat. But it is a safe pram!
