Have you made yours? How do you go about it? A recent visit to my Gran in a home has filled my head with things I want to tell my dds before/if I become unable to.Can you include the more "waffly" but important things like that in a will?

Also the visit has made me want to have some serious talks with my parents??!!Do you all know how your parents want to be cared for when they're older, can you really plan for this??

The war combined with the fact that we are off on holiday on Saturday for a week without ds has made dh and me twitchy, so we are finally getting our act together and writing wills.

We're just doing a "quick and dirty" one this week (will do one properly when we get back), using a template from the Internet (found one that used Scots Law).

What I need to know is - can the witnesses have to be related to dh and me? I know that they have to be non beneficiaries. As it stands, db and sil aren't mentioned in the wills, and as we're having dinner with them (and my mum and dad) on Friday night, we were thinking of getting them to witness them and we can then give copies to my parents (who we are naming as guardians).

WOuld that be OK legally?

So long as they are not beneficiaries it is okay to use them.

Please be very careful with homemade wills though. DH is a wills and probate solicitor and he spends a good deal of time sorting out problems with homemade wills - a badly made one can be worse than having no will at all. I suggest that when you get back and have more time you get a 'proper' one done to replace them.
