size 12 for most tops, dresses and skirts, size 14 for all trousers and jeans.

Okay, this is ridiculous, but I have been dying to say this to someone (besides DH who completely doesn't get it). I very rarely have bought clothes in the last 10 years (too busy having babies). And what I did buy was from charity shops, so old sizing & styles. Most of my old stuff (and we're talking 8-15 years old) in the wardrobe was size 14 in jeans & tops. Outside of pregnancy I would have told you I was size 10-12 in jeans, size 12-14 in tops. But then recently I bought new clothes, for first time in a decade or more, from a variety of shops & the results were:

5'8"
size 14-16 in tops
size 8 in trousers.

Size ruddy 8? Is the average British woman so pear-shaped & I never noticed?! I just don't get it, something seriously weird has happened to British clothes sizes in last 10 years.

kittywise · 03/07/2008 18:17

Yes the sizes now are a nonsense. I mentioned earler that before I had children i was a size 10. I was very slim.
Now I have 6 kids and am still slim but am a size 4,6 or 8.

I think it must be some kind of con to make women think they are really slim because they are say a size 12 when in old money they would have been an awful lot bigger.

JodieG1 · 03/07/2008 18:20

Size 8

5ft 3

Size 5 feet

About 32D/DD need measuring again after stopping bf ds2.

mloo · 03/07/2008 18:22

I vaguely recall some kind of clothes resizing exercise (by the manufacturers), maybe 5 years ago. I thought that was just to do with offering the right range of clothes sizes, not that they would change all the numbers!!

But for someone like me to come out so distorted, you wouldn't think it to look at me. I just came home muttering and shaking my head at DH, saying "I am NOT a size 8", I don't care what they say.

bigTillyMint · 05/07/2008 18:55

I thought the average woman was a size 16 - doesn't seem like mumsnetters are average women - more than half seem to be a size 10 or smaller

I am 5'8", size 10-12, size 6 shoes

allgonebellyup · 05/07/2008 18:59

size 8-10

5'7

tiny tiny norks!

big feet though!

Hecate · 05/07/2008 19:00

Oh well, what the feck. I'll be the first one to do it.

Down from a size 40 2 years ago.

Still falling.

Bet none of my fellow blimps will come and join me, will they?

googgly · 05/07/2008 19:05

String bean me, not blimp. 5ft 10, size 8 most often, but have been known to fit in a zero in US shops. 32AA, size 7 feet.

I look like I don't eat anything, but actually I eat quite well - I'm sure the whole metabolic predisposition thing is true.

ChasingSquirrels · 05/07/2008 19:10

12, lost a dress size a couple of months ago when H left and I barely ate (every cloud has a silver lining then!).

ingles2 · 05/07/2008 19:11

I'm 14 on top and 12 on the bottom

rookiemater · 06/07/2008 21:07

I have been cutting down over the last few months and have gone from size 14s being slightly too tight and am no in between 12 and 14, v frustrating trousers either hang off me or are too tight on the hips.

berolina · 06/07/2008 21:11
  1. After ds1 I was 12/14 on bottom, but seem to have lost a lot of weight since ds2.

I'm 5'1" and have minuscule norkage, despite tandem feeding.

FrazzledFairyFay · 06/07/2008 21:12

5ft 11
size 18/20
size 9/10 feet depending on the shop

BibiThree · 06/07/2008 21:12

18

MissingMyHeels · 06/07/2008 21:17

5ft6
Size 12 bottom/14 top but had baby 16 weeks ago so aiming for less soon!
Size 6/7 feet

ranting · 06/07/2008 21:21

No idea shop size, they all seem to vary so much, can be anything from an 8 to a 12. Am in dressmaking mode at the moment and I know my measurements are 36-26-37, 5ft2 and size 6 feet. (yes I have feet like flippers).

Booboobedoo · 06/07/2008 21:25

5'3"
12 on the bottom, 10 on top
32E
Size five feet - AA fitting.

I'm a proper shorty pear, so trousers are a pain, but tops are a joy to buy.

fuzzywuzzy · 06/07/2008 21:25

6 or 8 and in a few designs apparantly I have a size 10 arse pity my top half is still a 6

S1ur · 06/07/2008 21:28

10 boobs
8 bottoms
3 feet

But only one head

TequilaMockinBird · 06/07/2008 21:30

14 bottom, 16/18 top.

I have MASSIVE norks so if its a blouse type top (which has buttons) then i sometimes have to get a 20/22 so that they dont gape!

butwhybutwhy · 06/07/2008 21:33

I'm a 12 bottom, 10 top.

But if I carry on eating chocolate like a fat pig then I will get bigger.

I'm hoping my wii fit will work a miracle for me.
