How much does it hurt having one done? Am debating getting one on my lower back.

Are you pleased with yours? Wish you never had it done?

ILikeToMoveItMoveIt · 30/06/2008 12:10

It's like an irritating scratchy annoying pain - not a ouch pain iyswim.

piratecat · 30/06/2008 12:11

it hurts, mine was lower back and i kept totally quiet as I had an audience, so decided to be brave, but it fecking hurt.

i have another above ankle, didn't hurt as much but was smaller!

macdoodle · 30/06/2008 13:22

I have 3 lower back wasn't too bad - top of the foot that BLOODY hurt but its the one I love the most

Tortington · 30/06/2008 13:27

i have one and am not against them at all

but lower back ones are 'tramp stamps'

something to look at whilst you are being fucked doggy style

never understood why one would have a tattoo which says " hay i like to be fucked doggy style"

RedFraggle · 30/06/2008 13:30

I have one on my hip so that I can cover it up if I want to. I did it for me IYSWIM so I didn't want it to be always on show. I LOVE mine. Would love to have another but it would need to be something special.

The pain was ok, but the tattoist did recommend I have it slightly to the front dso it wasn't directly over the bone. (I was very skinny back them) Wouldn't be without it though...

Izzywhizzy · 30/06/2008 13:34

I have one on my lower back. When I had it done many years ago, I was quite clear in my mind that I wanted that particular design that I wanted it to be permanent.

It must be awful to have one and then change your mind later.

It hurt a bit when it was being done, but it wasn't unbearable- more like a kind-of burning.

Blandmum · 30/06/2008 13:37

re lower back tattoos, the Australians call them 'Arse antlers' which always makes me LOL

cyteen · 30/06/2008 13:43

Yes, there is a prejudice now against certain types of lower back tattoo - the black swirly tribal flash ones that are quite commonplace these days are the ones habitually referred to as arse antlers, tramp stamps etc. As with all things tattoo-related though, it's whether the wearer is happy with their ink and what it means to them that counts. There's plenty of stuff out there that is not to my taste, or that I like on other people but wouldn't wear myself, but I try not to judge the wearer just because I don't like their ink.

Badly executed tattoos, now, that's another matter

TheMuppetMuggle · 30/06/2008 13:43

My Lower back one is a rose with my daughters name on the top! I want one done on my wrist next not quite sure what tho

novadandypowder · 30/06/2008 14:05

JellyBelly I've had laser removal on a daisy chain around my belly button. It hurt me a lot, but the pain is quite brief as they trace around the tattoo slowly. You can put a numbing cream on a few hours beforehand if you want, but I went for the hardcore option! I, quite thankfully, had an outline tattoo in black, so the lines were quite thin. Black is the best colour for complete fading, I know colours are a bit trickier, with red being the worst for removal.

For a £20 tattoo in my teens, it cost me over £700 and a number of months to get it removed in my late twenties. It's also quite sore for about 24-48 hours after each laser session and looks quite nasty. The place I went to recommended 10 sessions, but I went for 8 and it's totally gone.

I have other tattoos that I love though, although now I know the one on my lower back is referred to as an arse antler maybe I'd better dig out that hospital number again....

Dondletella · 30/06/2008 14:39

I have one on my shoulder - didn't hurt at all - piece of cake!

However - bear in mind your lower back holds a nexus of all the nerves feeding your spine and lower back - it is logical that this area will be a bit more tender than other bits of your body....

Good luck!

citylover · 30/06/2008 16:40

I have a tiny sun on my upper left shoulder and more recently a japanese lotus flower on my lower back.

I really don't care if people think it is a tramp stamp!!

I have no regrets whatsoever and am thinking of having a retro heart on my other upper arm.

So wangle99 what have you decided? I hope we havn't scared you too much

Buckets · 30/06/2008 18:18

Had mine done (left upper arm) at 17, didn't hurt as much as Silkepil (ie that makes me cry, tattoo didn't.) Had it retouched 14yrs later, forgot how relaxing it actually is being tattooed, I nearly dozed off! And hadn't realised quite how expensive it would be 14yrs on LOL as it really is quite mainstream now - tattoo studios are v posh with appointments and everything.
I've never had any grief about it (apart from my mum) and forget it's there most of the time. Wouldn't get any more done as it's fairly big (about 4"x2") and I think anymore would look too butch on me.

TearsofaPersonalClown · 30/06/2008 18:52

I have 2 one my shoulders. That's just the start as I'd like to have my back covered. Time and money are currently holding me back.
I'm LTH...if you want them, sod what they look like at 70!

My mum started getting hers when she hit 40 (mid life crisis alert!!) and now she's got 12 and she'll be 50 next year!!

katpotat · 30/06/2008 19:19

I have one on my lower back and one in between my shoulder blades...they both hurt, kind of burning pain....you get used to it after a while. With the lower back the problem is after coz everything you wear including pants rubs over it...that was more painful than having it done! I love mines though, I even forget i've got them until someone mentions it

PersephoneSnape · 30/06/2008 19:57

heal it with bepanthen nappy cream. keep it moist and don't let it scab. healed in a week.

yes it hurts, but it isn't excruciating.

MuthaHubbard · 30/06/2008 20:28

I have two stars on my inner left wrist. Had it done twice by two different artists as I wasn't happy with it first time round, but really pleased with it now . They represent my children and, daft as it sounds, means they are always with me [soppy emo].

Definitely addictive, am seriously thinking about having another on my right foot.

Is like a needley/burning sensation but hurt more afterwards imo.

cafebistro · 30/06/2008 20:35

I have one on my stomach so i can keep it covered when i want to and show it on holiday etc. Painful? Yes! Not as painful as childbirth but definately not something i'd put myself through again!!

Goober · 30/06/2008 20:38

I have 4.
Yes they hurt, but you soon forget the pain.
I regret 1 of them but not enough to do something about it.
I want 1 more, then I'm done.

Phoenix · 30/06/2008 21:00

I got 1 age 17 on my left upper arm and i don't like it but its more the location and the design (a dolphin supposedly leaping in front of the sun but it looks like a dolphin with a red circle behind it) i don't like not that it's a tattoo if that makes sense. I'm thinking of getting another one soon just not sure what yet. Dh wants one too but is a bit scared

Has anyone got their kids' names done?

Phoenix · 30/06/2008 21:01

Oh and i'd describe it as a sting rather than a pain.

TearsofaPersonalClown · 30/06/2008 21:06

I have my Ds' name tattooed under This It's supposed to watch over everything, blessed and damned, good and evil, heaven and hell etc from Eygptian mythology.
I wanted the symbolism of it watching over DS.

katpotat · 30/06/2008 21:08

That's a bit mean.....re "Tramp Stamp"
