What would you want to be in it?

So far I’ve got new knickers, a face mask, Halloween biscuits, cashews, and the leggings she forgot to take with her.

Any other ideas please?
Nothing too heavy.

TIA

There's still places in the US that you won't want to send chocolate to as it'll melt and make a mess. Might want to wait until November to send it if she's in the South or South West.

But if ask what she is missing. It's funny the things you crave when you are away from home. It's not always what you'd expect.

Do people send actual money abroad in parcels?

GiantTeddyIsTired · 08/10/2025 18:35

Depends where she is and what you can't get from home...

Teabags/Crisps in familiar brand - one place I begged for rice crispies!

Something little and sweet like freddos

When I was in that position, my mum’s box included a magazine, something small that she had cooked and some perfume!

PrincessOfPreschool · 08/10/2025 18:38

My DD said fluffy socks, Fizzy worms from Lidl, Moser Roth choc with hazelnut from Aldi, Percy Pigs, caramel latte sachets.

When I was at uni, my gran sent me some toilet roll with flowers printed on. It was so pretty and a lovely little luxury.

Check what you are allowed to send. The choc selection boxes I sent to USA for Christmas one year got sent back to me! There’s also a a financial limit on sending things to USA now. I have resorted to just buying from Amazon.com.

Favourite chocolate and sweets.

The parcel arrived today. DD said it was “the best parcel EVER!”

So thank you all for your suggestions. It was all worth it.

Fantastic! It can be lonely studying abroad. What did you put in it?

Cockahoophappy · 15/10/2025 18:49

Knickers
tea bags
chocolate
dried mango
face mask
eye mask
a pair of leggings that she had forgotten
Some easy peelers
a poem
some cards with instructions on when they can be opened (the next day with an F in it for example)
Cashew nuts
some Graze banana bread
a few packets of crisps

(I feel like I’m on The Generation Game. You need to be quite old to know what I’m talking about 😂)

Cuddly toy?

Marmite

GetItRight321 · 15/10/2025 19:08

Brings back happy memories of my time abroad. Tea bags, marmite, mincemeat so I could make mince pies the year that I didn't come home for Xmas. Handwritten notes. My mum sent me a little bit of embroidery with a sweet note telling me to think of every stitch as a loving hug and to look at it when I need to know how much I'm loved. That's still by my bed 30 years later - mum died 2 years ago.

And knickers - M&S ones. It was absolutely tradition among my fellow English girlfriends to get those sent.

That's lovely you have the embroidery still.
