What would you want to be in it?

So far I’ve got new knickers, a face mask, Halloween biscuits, cashews, and the leggings she forgot to take with her.

Any other ideas please?
Nothing too heavy.

TIA

You know what your 20 year old loves more than us OP!

Bloobelly · 08/10/2025 07:33

New knickers? Is she prone to having accidents?

local massage voucher for my DD would go down a treat

TimetoGetUpNow · 08/10/2025 07:34

Letters from different people. My mum always wrote to me, I’d have loved a letter/ short note from my dad in particular. And my brother, grandma etc. letters are still more meaningful than WhatsApp messages etc.

Tamfs · 08/10/2025 07:35

Tea/Coffee/hot choc are very expensive even buying in supermarket, so nice version of one of those. My 20 year old is of the opinion that M&S food is very posh, so I send a few small bits from there.

When I was that age and abroad I begged my DM to send me a little jar of marmite 😂

Crisps or chocolate,
favourite lippy (yes I know they sell lipstick abroad but mine was madly busy and didn’t shop much)

Nonameagain31 · 08/10/2025 07:36

Depends what country she is in and what she likes. Eg America doesn’t do proper tea and there chocolate is rank!

mulberrybag · 08/10/2025 07:37

That’s a lovely idea OP, ignore the ‘does she have accidents’ comment! My 19 year old is always grateful for extra underwear! Mine has studied abroad for the past few years and loves hand written notes, some cash in the local currency and possibly a few printed photos to put around her room ?

Cinaferna · 08/10/2025 07:38

Yorkshire tea bags, a tiny pot of marmite if she likes it, maybe her favourite hair or skin products if she can't access them there. A photo of the family and a small, soft toy with a daft expression.

herbalteabag · 08/10/2025 07:42

Chocolate. A good book that I would enjoy. Teabags. Face cream. It depends on the country and how hard it is to buy things I like.

Radiatorvalves · 08/10/2025 07:46

Check the rules re food as she’s abroad. We’ve just sent Marmite and (bizarre I know, but on special request) Sainsbury’s red pesto to DS.

itsgettingweird · 08/10/2025 07:48

Where is she?

I worked abroad and I liked it when I got things I loved from home I couldn’t buy there!

It really is the simple things.

Dozer · 08/10/2025 07:51

Depends on the country and what she’s missing and can’t get!

Don’t send sherbet flying saucers and left-behind smart shoes (I’d deliberately left behind) together in a parcel like my DM did 😆

I was in the US and wanted my favourite chocolate, or indeed any UK chocolate. And salt and vinegar crisps.

Dozer · 08/10/2025 07:52

My DM would totally also have sent knickers, and at the time I would’ve appreciated them 😆

Exactly!

Without knowing the country at least…..

padronpepper · 08/10/2025 07:59

I sent dd the Lego flowers - the small sets.
Chocolate.

donstrenchcoatanddarkglasses · 08/10/2025 08:02

I remember getting a parcel when I was in the same situation. She will love whatever is in it.

I remember most people just wanted food that reminded them of home that you couldn’t get - little tins of baked beans, jars of marmite, marmalade, tea bags, Cadburys chocolate, crisps in familiar flavours.

I also wanted things to read - English magazines, the latest fiction paperback - but that was before the internet had really taken off, so perhaps it’s all different now.

Owly11 · 08/10/2025 08:03

How lovely. I still remember my dad sending a care package when I was at uni - it was a lovely thing to receive. Mine had a really nice cheese and a half bottle of Chablis - also some alka seltzer !!!!

Sugarahhoneyhoney · 08/10/2025 08:08

OP when I was in my first term at uni, I got tonsillitis and my mum sent me a new scarf in the post.
I still have it and I'm 48 now. ❤️

lljkk · 08/10/2025 08:38

Adult DD just had a birthday. I've suggested a take-away meal or restaurant meal voucher to gift her. She only lives in London, lol. Her boyfriend's dad is paying for her to have a holiday in China. I cannot compete...

Usually the remote kid can and indeed should buy whatever they want locally, you shouldn't waste money on postage. Cold hard cash to go shopping or maybe Amazon vouchers are good alts.

MiddleAgedDread · 08/10/2025 08:43

tea bags!!

goldtrap · 08/10/2025 08:44

Cashmere bedsocks and a little Jellycat Amusable.

However, if she is in the EU, I wouldn't bother tbh. Ever since Brexit it has proven costly and complicated to send anything larger than a gnat's fart in an envelope abroad. Invariably the recipient ends up having to pay some spurious customs tax which is 5 times the price of the contents of the package.

Dolamroth · 08/10/2025 08:46

Check the rules or she might get a hefty bill. I've asked people to stop sending parcels now as it costs me more in customs than the value of what is inside usually.

Sunart · 08/10/2025 08:47

Which country? There are rules about sending food items to some places. Also, since Brexit then customs can charge a lot to receive a package (gifts under a certain amount are supposed to not be charged for but in my experience this is hit or miss).

Deadringer · 08/10/2025 08:51

I used to send care packages to my dd in Canada. She liked Lyons teabags, Cadbury chocolate and Tayto crisps. We are Irish though. Oh and a selection box at Xmas.
