Does anyone else find this a bit odd?

ds was 12 today and invited his girlfriend to the pics. She wanted her best friend to go too so we paid for lunch and the pics for the 3 of them.

We weren't expecting him to get presents so were pleasantly surprised when he did.

The friend gave him a "Christian" video together with a pamphlet all about God. Her mum and dad had given it to her to give to him.

He thanked her of course but I think found it very odd. I do too. We were bought up as churchgoers but I wouldn't dream of giving someone I've never met a religious gift.

I know it's not important in the grand scale of things and it as lovely that they wanted to give him a present, but anyone else find it a bit strange or is it just me?

I don't think it odd at all. Some Christians believe it part of their duty to 'save' the atheists.

I actually think that's so wrong. It's abit like shoving it down his throat. Not just odd but in my personal opinion it's actually a bit out of order. A christian video and phamplet and using his birthday as an excuse to shove it under his nose, no, sorry I think that's wrong.

It's "The Resurection" and it's not aimed at kids as far as I can tell. I'm probably more concerned that they felt it necessary to aqcompany it with "God-bothering" leaflets (dh's expression not mine).

I suppose it's not important but it's bugged me a bit. What if we were followers of a different religion? How offended would ds have been?

It´s up to the parents to teach a child about religion, not other people´s parents (and also not the school, but that´s another argument).

No we're not a different religion. In fact, having taken dd to a crib service on Christmas Eve was half thinking of going to the Family services at the local church. But that's the point. ds doesn't have any interest in religion and neither does dh. ds isn't bothered by it - just thinks it's odd a- end of story.

It's his mithering stepmum who can't get it out of her head. HOw sad am I?

As for the girlfriend, he started senior school in September and has been out with 3 different girls already and this is the 3rd stint with this one. Don't think it's serious

scaltygirl - that's awful!Reminds me of when my dad died and had been active on the local labour party in helping with fundraising. The labour councillor wrote in a card to my mum "God Bless XX - he held the flag of socialism high". I thought that was inappropriate for a condolence card and also didn't describe my dad either!

I did wonder if they were "Brethran" but only coz we have a brethran church not far from us. ds doesn't seem to know much about her.

I feel shit tbh, should go to bed but as I slept today and am worried I'll wake up at 4am or something. Lottie was very good value today. cracking me up was a tough job but she managed it a lot, bless her.
