New Year Resolutions - what are yours and do you think you'll keep them?

Not sure what I think of New Year resolutions really. Am I more likely to stick to them at this depressing time of year than any other? Not sure so I'm keeping them short and sweet. They are:

Stop smoking. For good this time (yep, agaaain)
Stay off dairy as I've lapsed badly over Christmas
Go to yoga and stick to it this time
Cut my spending
Lose weight. I know how to do it, I just haven't. So 1,200 calories a day, more exercise, less alcohol, less olive oil.

Oooh, it all sounds grim but I'm going to make myself a chart for the wall in my office to remind myself what I want to achieve. Maybe it'll work What about everyone else? What are yours and do you think you'll keep them?

i always decide to do a diary every time i watch bridget jones, but 2 weeks later i am trying to remember what i did 5 days ago as i have forgotten to do it since. good luck with your though

Xanthe · 04/01/2003 17:11

I know exactly what you mean happydays! Also there are weeks when there is plenty to write about followed by weeks when there's nothing much happening. If I'm still going strong by the end of February, I'll report back on this thread. There - that's a good incentive to stick to my resolution.

happydays · 04/01/2003 19:21

well you have inspired me to start doing my diary again, lets see who keeps it going the longest.

Xanthe · 04/01/2003 20:13

You're on! I'm off to start filling mine in now, before I forget what I've done this week.

happydays · 09/01/2003 17:33

xanthe,

How is yours going?, i started mine 4th, did the 5th and forgotten since, are you doing any better ?

Xanthe · 09/01/2003 23:01

Doing OK so far - thanks for asking, but it's early days yet ...

happydays · 10/01/2003 08:30

My husband thinks i nagg so much, he is doing a diary of my nagging, its all in good fun though.

Xanthe · 10/01/2003 11:13

When I was little I used to keep a diary of when my parents argued - ticks for good days and crosses for bad days. Have to say there were very few days with ticks, but that's another story ... At the moment my current diary is pretty harmonious as am very reluctant to argue with dh, because I know from bitter experience how distressing it can be for children.

Rhubarb · 10/01/2003 15:31

I wonder if anyone can help my dh with his resolution? He has agreed to stop smoking (again!), but I see this every single bloody year! He will stop, then he will only smoke a couple when he's at the pub at weekends, then he has one or two after squash on Wednesdays, then he will have a couple at home after a drink, and so on. I am really against this now as I have never smoked (tried and failed!), I think it makes his breath smell foul, not to mention our house. And now that dd is around, I simply don't want her to see her daddy smoking. Trouble is he likes it so much he doesn't want to quit for good. We have had blazing rows about it which I don't want again. How do I get across to him how much I hate him smoking? How can I help him to quit for good?

breeze · 10/01/2003 15:35

give up nookie until he does give up.
