£300 on whatever you like...

My DH has spent £300 on a new pool cue. We can afford it and I dont mind at all but today I joked that he has no qualms about spending money on what I see as a pure treat for himself. I commented that I dont think I could do it. That everything I buy is for our home or any potential large spends would be on our forthcoming first baby.

He then said I could have the same on whatever I wanted, not a necessity like clothes but a a pure selfish treat for just me. Now, I wouldn't necessarily do it as its just tit for tat, and i dont have an issue with the cue. Just really heightened that I couldnt imagine spending money on myself. So, I have been thinking since 4pm this afternoon what the hell could I buy if I wanted to?

What would you buy, purely for you?

books plus a night in a hotel (including dinner) to myself to read them all.

Plus a bottle of vodka.

And prob some painkillers for the morning.

It would be goooooood.

TheArmadillo · 24/04/2008 20:44

just to make clear that would be lots and lots of books.

Loads of the things.

I like reading.

Reading in peace and quiet with no distractions would be heaven.

cheesesarnie · 24/04/2008 20:45

TheArmadillo-that sounds like a fantastic idea!

I've never had £300 for myself. My ex gave me £50 a month ago, just for me. I bought ds some jeans and spent the rest on food. Sad !

I would spend it on:

spa weekend away and wonderful haircut/highlights
very expensive wonderful shoes
new gadget phone/pda
trolley dash in make up floor of harvey nicks
jewellery
curtains

only one of the above though

southeastastra · 24/04/2008 20:50

is he steve davis?

Indith · 24/04/2008 20:50

Mmmm similar to Armadillo.

Lots of books

And CDs that I can't afford

And dvds of Jane Austen and Elizabeth Gaskell adaptations

A good massage

And a night in a hotel, on my own, to watch the dvds that I wouldn't watch at home as dp is not that way inclined, and the chance to sleep on my own, not be woken by ds, or dp trying to snuggle me.

Monkeybird · 24/04/2008 20:50

i don't have any particular difficulty spending money TBH

TrinityTheProgressingRhino · 24/04/2008 20:51

clothes and books

then some alcohol and a babysitter

Tinkerisdead · 24/04/2008 20:56

LOL at southeastastra...no but he is spitting image of john higgins!

I should note that gadgets are covered as new phone on upgrade, laptop will do for mumsnetting and ipod for birthday last year. so far i am in a hotel/spa with books

Def with the spa, books, good bottle of wine, followed by baileys, and no kids...

notnowbernard · 24/04/2008 21:00

Clothes and books

expatinscotland · 24/04/2008 21:01

probably spend it on a weekend getaway.

Tinkerisdead · 24/04/2008 21:01

expat, just for yourself?

OP posts:
expatinscotland · 24/04/2008 21:03

yes, if i could get someone to mind the kids.

i'd take off for a couple of days and explore a new place.

Monkeybird · 24/04/2008 21:04

i've just noticed you don't yet have a baby.

Oh my god. Go and get the cheapest flight you can find to the posh bit of a mediterranean island, have a weekend in a boutique hotel, eat food uninterrupted and shag your husband.

Cos I tell you, you won't be doing any of that again soon!

notnowbernard · 24/04/2008 21:06

Monkeybird

Tinkerisdead · 24/04/2008 21:06

ha ha ha monkeybird, surely the point of that would be that DH gets to benefit again!!! he gets a new cue, and a holiday and a SHAG??!!! now thats pushing it

cazzybabs · 24/04/2008 21:08

padboz · 24/04/2008 21:19

Do you save regularly? if not then invest it somewhere - the national savings ISA is a safe and paying a table topping rate. wait for inspiration and buy things when you actually want something just for you....if you lob a few spare quid in each month who knows what could happen?

Tinkerisdead · 24/04/2008 21:24

Yes we both save, i think thats why this is so hard as i just cant be frivoulous with money. He is and thats great as he earns it and can afford it but as a natural saver i think im just too reserved. thats why i have been so stumped on this one!

New bike with lovely basket on the front, rack and panniers on the back, and lights - sheer heaven.
